I wish our sixties and seventies, and beyond, didn’t have to bring the onset of painful physical or mental decline. It seems a cruel way to spend the last years of a person’s life.
Perhaps it is this degeneration which causes one to look up and hope for relief and release from this mortal shell. It instills a longing desire and craving for the peace and joy of heaven. The promise of transformation into a new being becomes the focus, and a willing submission to draw this earthly life to a close. We see an appreciation of dearly loved ones and an imparting of assurance that he will be waiting for them on the other side.
Through this valley, deep and low between the mountains, is a place of reckoning and coming to urgent grips with reality and priorities ~ a profound change in one’s direction and values in life.
It is a merciful chance to open spiritual eyes, maybe for one last time, and choose the hope of heaven...what Amazing Grace God offers to his children.
