Our path through the psalms has brought us to a door of sorts, a place of decision and of action. We have been told, and shown, what awaits us in the Kingdom, and perhaps we are ready to go through that door but for a moment we can't help looking back. We can see others in their daily toils and we can see ourselves, back in the world of doing and we wonder what we would do if given the choice. We have seen the truth and there is no going back, it has made new beings of us and we look in wonder at what seems to be a new creation.
53. Hard Earned Truth
The fool has convinced himself that there is no God;
His heart is dead and all he does is corrupt, he cannot do any good thing.
God looked down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there were any who understood, who were seeking after Him.
All had turned away, there was nothing clean and no one doing good; no, not one;
Trying to gain from injustice and eating his people like bread.
Don’t you remember anything? You have not called upon your God.
You were there and much afraid, but there was no need,
God scattered the bones of your enemies and put them to shame with his power.
When will you learn? Maybe hard times give better lessons.
What is the matter with people, how can they be so foolish? It is obvious to us that doing harm to others harms us more than anyone but they are not able to see that simple truth. There is something that holds them back and I’m not sure what it is, perhaps they have another lesson to learn or another mile to walk. Maybe it’s laziness; it takes such hard work to continue to look for what is of value to find.
