Sunday 8/30/09 Pastor Alex’s Sermon: Emergency Relationships-The God Father: It’s a Family Thing Matt 25:15-27
Christianity is all about the “Family Business“. The Church is a relationship with Christ. The Church is the Bride of Christ. Jesus will come back and ask us how well we did with the “Family Business”. We are part of God’s family.
The “family business” should be the #1 thing we are concerned about. God wants us to grow up to be what He wants us to be. God created the Church so we can be saved, grow up and take on more responsibility of spreading the Word --“the Family Business”.
**Babes: When we were first saved we were babes in Christ. Cute, wrinkly but good for nothing.
**Toddlers: As toddlers in Christ we got into everything. We are always trying to find out what the boundaries are and what we can get away with before we get clipped. As toddler Christians, God always has to say no, no, no to us.
**Adolescents : We want to do this and then do that and always don’t do too much of anything well. We need to move on with our growth process in Christ.
**Teenagers: As teenagers, we think our father is stupid and his rules don’t make sense. Some Christians are still teenagers in Christ.
**Young Adults: We want freedom, are full of inventive ideas, we want to be unleashed. We need to be shepherded so we don’t hurt ourselves cause we think we have a big “S” on our chest like Superman. Super Christian!!
**Adulthood: Adult Christians believe their parent’s rules were smart. They have a passion and heart for God.
**Mature Adult Christians: We make decisions based on wisdom that the hard knocks of life have brought to us.
We need to identify what we are in the Family of God. Are we still a babe, a toddler, a adult, a teenager or what? Identify ourselves-what are we? Jesus came to save us and change/transform us into being like Him. He wants to take us out of our comfort zone and do what he wants to do with us. Staying in our comfort zone can STUNT our growth in Christ. We need to embrace change so we can grow in Christ.
Why We Exist As A Church:
1) We exist to proclaim Christ: We should pray for the church and invite folk to church. Do the “family business”. If we worked like we do church, would we still have a job? We need to also give to the church our tithes and offerings. God will ask us what did we do with what he gave us. God uses our tithes/offerings to carry out the Family Business. God said to test Him and see if after we tithe, how He will pour out blessings upon us.
2) We need To help people connect: We need to be in small groups during the week. We need to grow up in Christ and we can do this is small groups. We need to buy into the Vision of the Church. The Vision of Reaching People for Christ! We have to believe that people will die and go to Hell without God. So we must witness to them. Ninety eight percent of saved people cane to God cause they were invited to church by a friend, family member or co-worker. We have to not look behind but look forward to the future in God. God is going to do something BIG !!
