At the star-lit sky,
And lying on the cool, damp grass,
Listening to the sounds of
Other kids chatting,
a movie playing.
I remember that week
Somewhere in my
When I played with my deer friends
And made things
Out of my imagination…
Like my surfboard.
It came from a card board box.
The hours we spent
(My cousin and I)
Sliding down that thick, grassy hill…
I remember that big yellow slide
The one that took me half a week
To convince myself to go down
I flew down that cliff
Ending with a mouthful of seawater,
A stomach ache,
And lots of laughter…
I remember those nights when
We came to dinner
Dressed as babies,
A shipwrecked sailor,
Maybe even a little bit backwards…
Making our councilors stand up at dinner
Making them sing the most irrelevant song.
We thought we were so clever…
