Boy in the Striped Pajamas

The “Boy in the Striped Pajamas” is an independent movie therefore it did not get a lot of publicity but we had seen it advertised several times so Josh our son got it for us to watch one night. It is about the relationship between two boys. One boy is the boy in the striped pajamas, he is a Jew in Nazi Germany; he and his family have been sent to a concentration camp thus, the striped pajamas are prison clothes. The other boy is the son of the new commander of the camp sent there to set up gas chambers and ovens for the final solution of the Jews. The commander’s son is keep in the dark about what is going on, they will not let him play in the back yard, and the house is a little distance from the camp. However, like a normal boy he finds a way to get in the back yard and finds the camp. That is where the two boys meet, each on his own side of the fence. Both boys are very naive about what is going on in the world, which makes for some interesting scenes. I will not give away the ending except to say that it rips your heart out and stomps on it a few times. We had to watch something else afterwards just so we could sleep.

The man reason I am writing about this movie is not to promote it but to take a closer look at a couple of scenes. A very smart man once said we are destined to repeat history if we do not learn from history. We seem to have forgotten history. The commander’s son and his sister have to have a tutor come because there is not school since they live way out in the boonies. The teacher, of course, is a Nazi stooge. Therefore, the books he has the kids read are full of propaganda about the Arian race and how bad the Jews are. The young boy hates these books and his sister and the teacher ridicule him at first. The boy goes and sees his new friend the Jewish boy and sees that he is nothing like what his books say.

In another interesting scene, the teacher sees that the boy is not enjoying the new books and is falling behind in his reading. Therefore, the teacher asks what kind of reading he has been doing and the boy answers adventure book and even names some classics like “Robinson Caruso” and the teacher then verbally abuses the boy for reading such trash.

Another scene has the father having several officers come in and watch a newsreel like a movie. It shows several scenes of the camp that are all spruced up it almost looks like a summer camp. The people are all well feed and show the officer’s mess as their Jewish mess. It shows the same well-feed people doing nice easy jobs. Throughout the movie, the boy keeps finding these places and seeing that what he saw in the movie is not true.

The reason I say we are repeating history I told you before I get all kinds of Christian e-mails and news article sent to me. I have a file full of articles about how school districts all over are having mandatory tolerance training for the gay and lesbian agenda. I have an other file of how university are refusing to give degrees to doctors because they refuse to learn how to perform abortions or Physiologists cannot get degrees because they will not accept that the gay lifestyle is normal. Colleges that refuse to teach what we used to call a classical liberal arts education refuse to use the classical books saying that they are all written by dead white guys and they need to learn what is new and now. This is exactly like what the Nazi stooge teacher was saying to the young boy in the movie.

The movie that the father put together that was pure lies. Look at what Hollywood is doing today. They just had the blockbuster hit of “The daVinci Code.” They rewrite History all the time. The movie JFK rewrote history to some director’s idea. They come out with this kind of movie all the time. They also make movies that make you root for the bad guys all the time. Alternatively, they have an underlying message. We like to watch movies, but I usually have to have a debriefing with my kids to talk about what they were trying force down our throats.

We are already doing what was going on in Nazi Germany. They know it only takes a generation to change the mindset of a country if you teach the children. This is what Hitler’s Nazi Germany knew and they were almost successful. We are heading down a dangerous road right now. We must learn from history.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Deuteronomy 6:4-10 (New King James Version)
4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one![a] 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
