I saw a square foot
Twelve inch
By twelve
Of God’s green earth
It was filled with grass
Not just one kind
But many
All in one square foot
Inside that square foot
Twelve inch
By twelve
I saw a flower
Not just one kind
But three
All in one square foot
Out of square foot
Twelve inch
By twelve
Emerged an insect
I saw only one
It had been kissing
A white bud
Out flew a butterfly
If I should dig deeper
Into this square foot
Twelve inch
By twelve
Underneath the grass
Below the buds and the bug
Perhaps ants were being busy
Working and gathering
If I should investigate further
Into this square foot
Twelve inch
By twelve
Into things my eyes could not see
Into life microscopic
How much more could be seen
Could I even number
All this life
In a mere square foot
Twelve inch
By twelve
What of Earth’s entire
It spans much more than
One square foot
It spans miles and miles
What all compasses its sea
Its land, and up in it’s sky
The scientists write
And they write
And they write,
But they can never write enough
Of all this Earth’s wonders
People have written
And written
And written
But they could never write enough
Of all of the Lord’s wonders
People are still writing
And writing
And writing
But they will never write enough
To elucidate all of His truth
Because if they were to do so
Even the measureless Earth
Would lack enough space
To hold each and everyone.
