In today’s fast paced world there seems to be little time to give to others and too little of ourselves. No time to say a word of care or reach out to the other. No time to form a proper smile or hello. No time to glance at the faces of those around us.
We need reminders for birthdays, events, wake up calls and the day’s appointments.
We hoard greetings cards with great sentimental value and albums with loads of pictures of our near and dear ones who are far away from us. Once in a while, when we browse through them, we look back and recall the great time spent with them.
But, do we really need such reminders in life? Do we think of a person only when we see a picture, letter, e.mail, card, faded rose carefully concealed in a book or glance at a treasured gift?
Do we recall our great undying Alma Mater only when we walk past our school, pause for a moment and think of our great teachers who have contributed to our identity today ?
Do we easily forget them otherwise ? Have we become so wrapped up in our own selves that we cease to think of others on ordinary mundane days ?
The truth is that I need No Reminders in life.
I do not have to visit a particular spot to recall a memory.
No greeting card, letter or picture to remind me of the special people in my life. Their memories are deeply etched in my mind and heart at all times, their birth dates are always in the forefront of my thoughts.
They may be far away from me, some having left this world forever. But, the time spent with them is ever fresh in my mind.
They live on in my thoughts. It is not possible to have their presence next to me but they are present in some way or the other in my
sub conscious and in my prayers.
Some may not even reciprocate when I reach out to them but they will continue to be a part of my thoughts and life.
I need no reminders to remind me at the start of the day to thank God for waking me to see the light of another new day. It is an automatic gesture from deep within.
So, let us cast aside the need for reminders in life and alert our minds and hearts to remember the people who crossed our paths and cherish their memories at all times.
