They come to my doorstep
Asking personal questions
“Do you know where you’ll go when you die?”
“Are you bound for Hell cause of your sins?”
I want to shun them
Ignore them
Despise them
But I can’t
There’s a gleam in their eyes
A bounce in their step
They even have nice ties
I tell my friends I didn’t answer the door
But that’s not true
I actually enjoy their visits more and more
They talk of living forever
Of cheating death as it rolls into town
Their stories
They’re amazing
Their promises
Are really in the Good Book
And now
When my doorbell rings
I just have to look
And happily proclaim
There’s a Baptist on my doorstep
I’m so glad they came!
