The sun sets--it is Friday night.
We attend church; our hearts are right.
A difficult week, some have had.
To be in service, most are glad.
God's presence a welcome greeting,
We prepare for tarry meeting.
Soul laborers stand at their posts.
We will seek for the Holy Ghost.
Around the altar, we gather;
Though remain seated, some rather.
In circle formation, we stand.
In unison, we clap our hands.
Guitar strings are plucked and drums beat.
Tambourines make the sound complete.
“Come By Here” is the song we sing.
God’s Spirit in, we want to bring.
We close our eyes and concentrate.
Touch from God, we anticipate.
On the name of Jesus, we call–-
Adults, children, babies, and all.
Tears wet our expectant faces.
Sorrowful hearts is the basis.
Our sins against God, make us grieve.
As changed people, we want to leave.
We lift our hands in surrender,
Unconcerned about pretenders.
Slobber suspends from trembling lips;
From ourselves, we forfeit our grip.
Some fall to the floor with weakness,
Yielding to the Lord in meekness.
Others scream as their souls are stirred,
Hoping their contrite prayers are heard.
Under God's anointing, yokes break.
In His glory, we now partake.
"Hallelujah," "Thank you, Jesus,"
We shout as God's power frees us.
We speak with stammering lips, tongues;
We are delivered--old and young.
With victory, we jump and dance.
To a new height, we now advance.
