Ephesians 6:10-20 Thank Him for the Trials
Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil”. (NAB)
I have to say, that immediately following the Sunday Mass service I am at my best. I am clean, refreshed, and ready to fight Satan with my freshly polished armor that is God’s Word. Unfortunately, I rarely make it out of the church parking lot without doing or saying something that requires another trip to the confession box.
Parentally speaking, it’s not difficult to imagine what can go wrong from the church to the car, or from the car to home, not to mention the remainder of the day! After hearing such a wonderfully crafted homily motivating one to lead a better Christian life, it can be quite disheartening when your attempts to “Love Thy Neighbor” are foiled by the thoughts in your head screaming “Choke Thy Kids”!
I believe that because we are Christians, we stand out as enemies of Satan and because of this Satan will always put stumbling blocks in our path whether it is confrontations with the people we love or much bigger obstacles that he hopes will turn us away from God completely. I think it is important to remember that the trials we face will only draw us closer to God if we allow them. With this in mind, we should rejoice when faced with trials, and give thanks when we are able to overcome them.
