“I wish I had the world at my feet
I’d never have to be afraid of defeat
I’d just relax and prop up my feet
Maybe turn on the radio and listen to some beat
The possibility of lack wouldn’t get me sick
Everything would be just the way I want it
I’d talk to the great and smile at the small
The poor, weak and hungry, I’d help them all
I’d never wear the same clothes twice
And it would be hard to stay firmly wise
I’d be virtually at nobody’s command
And everyone that matters would be in my band
The world would be at my beck and call
And I would be the cinousaur at the mall”
But as much as my teenage mind thinks,
Having the world doesn’t come with such ease
If you have the world at your feet today
Be careful what you do with the world I say
For tides will turn, and the hands that hold power will change
“what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world,
and loses his soul in hell?”
