Asher and David were walking out of the theater after watching the latest sample of the creative impulses of their old homeland.
Asher said, "The whole movie's almost like here in Istanbul isn't it?"
David replied,"Well, the Emniyet has less of a sense of humor then Captain Renault"
Asher said, "Yes but at least Major Strasser isn't allowed to just chase us wherever he wants."
David pointed out,"Well, as far as I know there's no Czech agents who knows every Resistance leader in Europe. Of course the last Czech agent I met was a scruffy mercenary who didn't even know he was working for Czechoslavakia"
Asher asked, "Maybe his handler knew every Resistance Leader in Europe?"
David chuckled, "If so we better get him out of here. If he's as indiscreet as Victor, the enemy's gonna abduct him for sure. An agent who knows so much would be quite a prize. I don't even know who the Haganah's chief of intelligence is. The Czechs must trust Mr Lazlo a lot."
Asher replied, "Well we need DeGaulle's Letter's of Transit don't we..."
David nodded, "Yes, of course-Vichyites accept the authority of a declared rebel. Kind of like British freeing Nathan Hale because George Washington ordered it. All makes sense."
Asher said,"Well, at least there's plenty of places in Istanbul like Rick's. You know that was my favorite part? And the police here don't even get shocked at there being gambling."
"What about Ingrid Bergman," asked David, "Wasn't she great?"
Asher grinned, "Married, and a goy, twice unkosher. But still she was a looker."
David replied, "Well the movie didn't exactly say she was a goy. Speaking of that, to bad neither of us could find someone to take to the movie. And after all there's plenty of Jewish girls in Istanbul."
"And plenty of Jewish fathers. More dangerous then the Abwehr," said Asher, "Besides wouldn't be fair without telling them about it. Not all Germans are as incompetant as Major Strasser."
David nodded, "Well, not all Czech agents are as incompetant as Mr Lazlo so perhaps we're even."
Asher said, "Well it was a good movie anyway. I shall have to watch it again. This could be the start of a beautiful friendship."
