Second we are to have self-respect. Is it surprising how many people do not have respect for themselves yet have expectations that others owe them respect?
Some men “demand” respect when they act like boys. They verbally disrespect women, and have notions that real women should desire them when they are not real men. Real women are ladies – real men are gentlemen. How many ladies and gentlemen do you know? Recently, a pastor addressed me as “baby.” I informed him that my name is Ms. Hicks. He objected even though I respectfully expressed the comment to him. Numerous males address females as “baby,” “honey,” “darling”, etc. The Lord informed me that when people use such terms, it is inappropriate, and disrespectful unless addressing spouses, and family members…. Some people do not know any better so it is reasonable to inform those who are not aware. Others know that it is disrespectful, and choose to operate from the disrespectful lane. As the Lord leads, I put them on front street (from a place of love, of course.)
Question for you precious people – I need help on this one:
What are your beliefs about males, who have long associations, addressing females as “baby,” “sweetie”, etc. What about females who have long associations with males in their lives? When I state “long associations,” I mean other than spouses or family members such as maybe long-term co-workers….
Our present society is replete with disrespectful actions through various channels; the media, etc. Disrespect is “respected.” God’s Word mentions His displeasure when people call evil good and good evil. We true Christians have a duty to hate evil, and to love righteousness. On a whole, is there enough discernible difference in our conduct vs. that of those of the world? Do we laugh at lewd jokes or ungodly communications? Do we use disrespectful terms to address others? Are we discourteous? Do we view profane programming?
Females often wear revealing, and seductive clothing. Some do not know that to do such is to advertise that they have no self-respect. It indicates that they are insecure, and crave attention. For some of them, they do not care if the attention comes in the form of lewd, and disrespectful expressions. True Christians have a role to lovingly inform, and educate those who are unaware that God designed them to be precious, and to represent accordingly – both inwardly and outwardly.
When people are in the grip of Satan, they are subject to all sorts of foolish conduct. We all need help. Let us help one another to rise. God’s Word states in I Peter 4:17 –“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us,…” Should not respect also begin with God’s people and spread beyond to those who know not God? Our respectful conduct will influence some to change to people who respect God, themselves, and others.
The Lord reminded me today that in His Word Jesus is defined as a Lamb, and as a Lion, among other definitions for Him. Along with that information, the Lord gave me the revelation that we can operate with the character of lambs, and with the character of lions. All needs to be done as the Spirit leads. Jesus stated in Matthew 11 that He is meek and lowly in heart, and elsewhere we find in the Word that, in anger, Jesus overthrew tables and seats.
And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves.
In The Acts 13, we read where Paul called a man “thou child of the devil.” The Acts 13:10 “…O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil , thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?”
I Corinthians 4:21
What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?
So yes, respect is necessary but for those who persist in defiance against what God commands, the rod may be necessary as shown in scripture.
…and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
…behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire,…
Thank you for your indulgence precious people of God.
