There are verses in God's Word
Telling us we are sinners with a past.
In sin we were submersed.
And we would not inherit - but were outcasts!
All our names are written there
It makes us shutter to think
How hopeless we were
Standing on the brink.
The darkness consumed us,
As we pondered that infamous list.
Hopeless, guilty and shamed
And our sinful deeds exist.
If we continue to look at our account
The evil one we enlist
To drive us insane with shame
Never our lives to reclaim.
"But"...that little word
So powerful indeed
Shows God's love and grace outpoured
To you and me.
It's a miracle--God's redemption so sweet
He's washed us clean with receipt
He set us apart for holy use,
And declared us free of blame and guilt.
It's in His name and in the Spirit of God
We are free from our soiled past.
In Christ - free to live at last
In the Kingdom of God!
