Old Paths
(Inspired from Jeremiah 6:16; Isaiah 5).
Would you come and hear My plea?
Incline your heart for a time and see
the paths of old, comfort unfold;
there’s rest therein and peace within.
Would you humble and hear My plea?
Come, are you heavy laden and weary?
Would death to self yield and cry
into My Hand, your life deny?
Would you, my beloved, prove Me?
Faithful is My grace, would you believe?
Would you walk the path of truth
steadfast and strong?
Ask of the old paths;
I shall hold and guide you along.
Wallow not in despair,
tho’ the road seems dark and dreary.
I’ve promised to love you,
guide you all the way, perfectly.
Would you come to My presence
at My throne of grace?
Hope in Me, the health of your countenance.
My commands are no bitterness and burden;
but sweet rest in the narrow path, be certain!
Would you, My beloved, seek the old paths?
To walk in Truth, your all to cast?
Desire My plan of an expected end;
in eternal trust My mercies send.
There's refuge in My shelt’ring hollow hand
of mercies and tender love to mend.
I shall forgive and receive;
call upon my Name and be cleansed and live!
I shall not be bitter of your wretchedness;
for I chose to save in My kindness.
Satan attempts to darken old paths
with bitter sorrow and unrest.
He lures many away from Me
and from My glorious likeness:
“They call evil good and good evil;
that put darkness for light
and light for darkness;”
They “that put bitter for sweet,
and sweet for bitter.”
Woe to them, the ungodly,
that destroy and dissuade
‘til disillusions pervade!
Would you, in My Hand cling to Me?
I love you and I promise safety.
Would you trust My Hand that shaped the universe?
Would you trust Me with all your cares?
O My handmade, turn to Me
from pride and from Satan’s snares!
Death and cross My body bore,
so you’d be healed from sin that assault you sore.
My mind was upon you, so be not faint;
for sin has marred you and left its taint!
Amidst your trials and labour,
My faithful, loose not thy valour.
Draw from Me strength and courage,
be very brave and be not severed.
Seek My counsel of old paths, have no fear;
for My sweet, secret presence is near.
Do find favour in my sight
O Saint, taste and see My guiding Light.
Read and understand
and learn My Truth which forever stand.
Come to Me, for I give grace to the lowly;
walk the old paths and abide faithfully.
My Word is reproof, they’re mercies to chasten.
Set your mind and soul to Godliness, awaken!
You've come a long way;
far the best and the good way.
My benefits daily display
My deeds of old paths, and there’s no dismay.
Abide with Me, tho’ storms of life beset;
in My loving-kindness, you have sweet arrest.
In paths of old there's understanding and peace;
even tho’ loneliness assail and would not cease.
Surrounded by a cloud of witnesses;
pilgrims of precious-like faith;
and company of saints, that love My precepts.
I am with you, dwell with Me and find rest;
stand fast and faint not, vic’try in each test;
I Am Saviour, Lord Jesus Christ
Come, be faithful; ask of My paths;
as did the prophets, and men after My own heart.
Come to My sweet rest of old and behold,
Home awaits you at My Heavenly Throne!
