OK, check out what God just did in my house--

I was here at the Message Boards, waiting for Hint (or Hinge) Time and enjoying the show, when I happened upon this particular spot in the universe. Just last night I was encouraging my 9 yr. old son, a reluctant writer, to keep a journal this summer. Today I showed him kids FW and he was interested. He's up at his own (child-safe) computer checking it out now! Yay FW!

Also he's been wanting to get his own e-mail account, but I won't allow it. This may be a suitable substitute.

He knows that I'm hooked on FaithWriters; I talk about it quite a bit. It has been such a blessing for me. Now we can share FW! I am home-schooling him. What a motivation this will be! "Go work on your Weekly Topic for 20 minutes while I work on mine!," I'll say. Good discipline for both of us!

Maybe he'll even make some new friends.

I'm going to tell my home-schooling friends and others about this site! Thank you!

Where are they sent? Account on the site?
E-mail address they submitted?

This is so exciting. My son Daniel is eight and I am excited for him. He is always telling me stories and making up songs and such. I am going to let him try this. I of course will have to help him type, but what a joy.

It makes me wonder where I would be if my mom had encouraged my poetry writing at age 12.

I just found this today and will be working on it with my son.

It's been ages since my kids submitted stories to KIds FaithWriters .

But after some prompting from Deb at our recent Aussie FW conference, I'm going to get my kids motivated again.

Does anybody know which day each week that the new weekly topic for the kids begins? I'll start them off writing again with the weekly topic, but I need to know which day is the starting day.

My daughter told me the new topic starts on Monday. Then she changed her mind and said Thursday

I think the FW Kids topic is on Monday. I remember Scott saying he would keep it separate to the Challenge topic.

Kylie is now looking for stories from across the board for the front page. There have only been a few children regularly writing to the topic, and you can't use the same ones every week. So even if they want to write something to the normal pages, then that's great.

Hi Crista!!

I've had the pleasure of spending time with our lovely Deb on a number of occassions - we actually live very close to each other and our kids have and are going through the same Christian school.

Monday is a great day for the kids topic to start as it gives them all week to work on it and then submit.

I just helped my son submit his first entry in the weekly topic. He wrote it longhand in school (We don't have time for him to hunt and peck in word today)and I typed it for him. It was hard to type it with all the mispellings, but I made him change the spellings and capital letters that should have been small letters.

Anyway it's called "When I Grow Up" by Jeffrey Spiller.

I told him that if he submitted he had to read at least one other entry, so as soon as I am done browsing this forum he will be able to do that.

Please go and read his entry. He's pretty proud of it.

Hello again!
My son is enjoying writing for Kids FW. I just thought I'd share our system with you, in case any moms out there are interested in integrating this
into home-schooling.

He types his story up in a word processing program on his own while I
teach his younger brother. Then, when we are each done, I go up and
check his work. Actually, we check it together and edit it together. So it turns out to be a very nice language arts/ Bible lesson.

He is also very motivated now to write in his free time. In fact, at 9:45 the other night he declared, "I'm going to work on my writing." It was music to
my ears, but unfortunately it was past his bedtime. Oh well, he worked on his story the first thing the next morning! Thank you FW! You are helping to build literate children.
