Well, the ice on my lake is just about gone. Another day or two ought to do it in.

Often times if there is a strong wind, the hour of near "ice out" is fun to watch. Built-up stresses in the ice will produce moaning sounds, loud booms, and explosions as huge ice floes crash into one another. Millions of tiny ice crystals will build up along the shoreline sounding like an enormous chorus of wind chimes.

The final "ice out" performance will only last an hour or two.

This year none of that will happen. This "ice out" is about as exciting as watching an ice cube melt in a glass of water. :(

:superhappy Our new doors arrived today and the builders a putting them in as I write. No more warped, weather beated doors that crack when you open them. Just to be able to lock the external doors will help us to sleep better.

Thank you, Don. Looking forward to checking it out.

Who has exciting Easter plans? We have none, other than going to church. I am afraid to plan anything as we are still on "baby watch." The little guy is taking his sweet time getting here.

I have some housework to do. If anyone would like to come and help, I will make cookies for us. The kind is up to you. Any takers?

Oops! I just remembered that I forgot :P to post the link to our last Sunday's 4/13 Palm Sunday special jubilee morning worship service. The jubilee refers to the 50 years we have been at our current location. Our former church building was taken and demolished to make way for the I-94 freeway. Instead of moving and rebuilding in the suburbs, as a number of other congregations did, we voted to remain in the city; we refurbished an historic, but abandoned, granite(!) church building in a derelict part of town about a mile away. On Palm Sunday in 1964, we marched en mass from the old site to our current one. We did the same this past Sunday, gathering at the vacant lot next to the freeway, across the street from where our old building once stood (now just a retaining wall looking down on the freeway).

http://www.stpaulsevlutheran.org/events.php (look to the upper right hand corner for "Online Sermons" - which appears to be "down" right now)

I'll warn you that it runs an hour and 45 minutes, but the first 20 minutes or so is before the service starts, as people are coming in from the march, returning the nations' flags to their holders over the sanctuary, etc. With all four of our congregations involved (our original Scandinavian-heritage one, two Ethiopian congregations, one Oromo and the other Amharic, and an Hispanic congregation) and taking part in the program, it took awhile to get to the message (near the final 20 minutes or so of the video).

The Oromo congregation is the youngest and largest of the four, and such an encouragement and blessing to us all. Since they Skype their services back to Ethiopia, they have purchased and installed the cameras in use to record Sunday services.

I hope you'll get a chance to see at least a part of the festivities when the service is back online. It moved our guest speaker, as well as many of us, to tears.

What a blessed Easter. I think probably Easter is my favorite holiday, though that in no way diminishes the importance of Christmas. There's something so exciting about this day, promises of a new beginning, reflections on past Easters with all my growing-up family, enjoying all the fellowship of my online friends who are excited about this day. How can we not be excited? He arose, just as He said and we look for His soon appearing in the eastern skies. What a day! What a Savior! Hallelujah, Christ Arose!

Regarding excitement...here's something (from the back of our Sunday bulletin) we most likely won't hear on the news:

...“Over the past month, as the situation in Crimea and the southeastern regions has escalated, churches, and individual Christians have become very active in speaking out and sharing the hope and encouragement found in the Bible. Christians of different denominations have been fasting and praying together for peace and wisdom for Ukraine’s leaders and other world leaders involved in the situation.

In Eastern Ukraine, prayer meetings are held every morning in the central squares of Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk. In the city of Lviv in Western Ukraine, a 15-minute prayer session is held every hour from 9am to 9pm in the central square....

Wouldn't it be fantastic if the veil were to be lifted from the eyes of Putin and he, too, would see Jesus through all this turmoil?

According to a news report this evening, I was privileged to witness a rare sight in Minnesota this past weekend. The report stated that a few of the once almost extinct American White Pelicans are migrating through MN this year on their way to Canada. They are stopping here to rest a few hours.

They are enormous birds with an 8 foot wing span...they are pure white with black wing tips...and they have huge orange bills. I had to check my bird book to identify them. Eagles are tiny by comparison.

I saw 3 on Saturday, and 6 on Sunday. Today they were gone. The report said that seeing them here is likely a once in a lifetime occurrence.

Very cool!

On another note:
Two nights last week, two bald eagles spent the night roosting in a tree in my back yard
over-looking the lake. The tree is only 40 feet from my deck, so I got a good look at them.

It sounds like you live in a wildlife Eden, Don. I'd love to see a real, live Pelican (Pelican Rapids, MN being my dad's birthplace and childhood home town).

Late this afternoon, Howard and I, along with a nephew and some of my many nieces, went to see "Heaven is for Real." It is worth seeing. The pastor-father of the little boy who visited heaven went to school with some of Howard's relatives (Wesleyan background). I haven't read the book, so don't know how the movie compares to it. But, the movie was good (we heard it placed third from the top in weekend viewership), and the little boy playing the main character is just adorable, and really did well in the role. Here's the youtube trailer:

First of all...I have not read the book, nor have I seen the movie. I have no desire to do so.

I am highly skeptical of such "events" now popular in books and even movies. My opinion is that unless everything seen and heard in the "remembered experience" is 100% scriptural, it is simply a fictional story designed by the devil to deceive and sell books, and take our eyes away from the inspired Word of God.

The devil knows that mankind is hungry to hear of such things - whether they be of heaven or hell.

When Lazarus died, his soul went to paradise (Luke 16:22), not heaven...because his death happened before Christ's resurrection and ascension. Lazarus' soul was not in the third heaven before being bodily raised from the dead.

When Paul's spirit was called up into the third heaven in a vision (2 Corinthians 12:2-4), he was not permitted to tell of what he had heard and seen.

1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

I haven't read the book or seen the movie so I can't comment about it. You can find both pros and cons about the moving by doing a search on Google. That said, I appreciate Edy's sharing her impressions and also Don's posting his thoughts about it. Anyone else want to comment?
