Throw a Brick for THE DEEP END

Postby Deb Porter » Fri Mar 14, 2014 9:33 pm

Hi Challengeers. We have our winners for THE DEEP END Challenge, and you know what that means . . . it's brick throwing time. Grab your brick and get ready to toss one for your entry. Last time to have a good brick toss until April. :D

So if you have an entry in for THE DEEP END Challenge, now is the time to point a few more readers your way (as well as read some other great entries). It's time to "throw a brick" straight to your entry.

All you have to do is reply to this post with a direct link to your entry. :D If you aren't sure how to do that, we have a guide to help you here:

How to Post a Link to Your Entry

If you join in the brick throwing fun, please make sure you read and review the other brick throwers' entries as well. (There's a lot of good reading in there.) Please take note of whether the author has asked for "red ink" critique on their entries when leaving feedback.

Have fun!

Love, Deb

Wow, those judges work fast, though with this week's topic, I felt we could Deep End on them for a quick assessment.

This week I've dabbled into a kind of soliloquy that's based on the beginning of Luke 5. Splash any red ink around that you think is needed, as I'm always willing to learn from colleagues.

The story carries a touch of personal joy and sadness, as I've explained in an author's note.

God bless you all,

Noel

PS. You may not realise that as well as being a fisherman, St Peter was also an international swimmer - for the bible describes a brief moment when he was in deNial....
God has blessed us with a grownup family of four and three grandchildren, so life is full. My weekly newspaper columns seek to encourage unchurched people to explore God's love, so they may discover the difference he can make for them - and through them.

This is another devotion. I tried my best to not use chistianese and quirky cliches. RED INK APPRECIATED!

First the top ten reasons why I didn't enter in time:
10. We had a blizzard and the clock was messed up.
9. I thought it was Wednesday, not Thursday.
8. It was below zero and the house was barely in the 50s, but my bed was toasty warm.
7. I'm training to enter the Olympics and bring home the Gold in procrastination and worrying.
6. I was distracted by the empty bird feeder blowing against my window.
5. Daylight Savings Time messed me up.
4. I was working out the storyline in my head.
3. My computer hates me.
2. The animals distracted me.

AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY SHANN DIDN'T SUBMIT HER ENTRY ON TIME...(Drumroll)
I'M LAZY!!!

It does have some errors, but if I had gotten up a few minutes earlier, I would have submitted it as is, so I didn't do any rewriting, but maybe it will be part of my Grow With Wrigley Series one day. I welcome all colors of ink, but my favorite is purple! :thankssign

You can find my story here.

I've been rummaging in the memory bank archives again. It's a good place to delve when ideas refuse to materialise. This is mostly factual but highly exaggerated. Poetic licence to the max!

Hopefully I am asking this question in the right place. :book2
I never really got clued up concerning the 'brick throwing'- sounded a bit too painful- and the use of the red ink.
I've done a little searching and think that a brick is thrown by the author of the story to open it up for critique by fellow writers (who are invited to use the metaphorical red ink) once the all clear is given?
There's got to be a tradition involved in the 'brick throwing' terminology I feel-despite the image it evokes.

Fiction is not where I am most comfortable, but I drew on my own life experiences to write this. Red Ink very welcome: http://www.faithwriters.com/wc-article- ... p?id=48142

Not many people reading and reviewing this week. :(
I wrote a personal story in rhyme this week. Hope I can get some feedback.
