Oh, BeachGrandma, I'm sure you could sing just as well when you were a child, too! I know I tried. When we'd hear some lady singing opera on the radio, my dad would joke, "Somebody must be stepping on her sore toe!" And, I'd try to imitate the voice and make my dad laugh.

Seriously, though, this little girl cannot be ten years old, yet. Can you imagine how she'll sound by the time she reaches the Met?

Edy, I kept expecting someone to announce that the little girl was lip synching (sp?) to some opera singer's recording. It just didn't seem possible that someone so young could have such a range!

Love all the funnies. There's nothing better than laughing!

I got so hungry for coconut cream pie after we had discussed pie here, that I made one today. We have already eaten over half of it. I'm going to blame our unusually cold, snowy, and icy weather. You see we had to stay in, and had nothing else to do...

Mariane, the title of my book is Faylene's Biggest Catch.

I'm going to find something to share with you all. You all post such interesting links and stories. I feel like the little kid who comes to show and tell with nothing to show or tell. Stay tuned...

I loved the one about the septic tank truck saying it was full of political promises. As for that 1895 Kansas school test, not many adults today would be able to pass it, much less children. Heck, even I couldn't get most of the answers!

The Montgomery Pie recipe I have calls for golden syrup; one of the brand names is Lyle's , and I can't remember the other one. You can substitute Karo Dark corn syrup for it, but my family has always been able to buy the golden syrup. You can either use just the juice of the lemon or add the grated lemon peel as well. We didn't use the lemon peel.

I got a text message this morning saying a member of our church, who had a stroke a few months ago and was found to have stage 4 colon cancer, passed away last night. He had been making progress, but Jesus called him home for total healing. I saw him for the last time last Sunday, and to be frank, he was almost unrecognizable. He'd just started maintenance chemo on a monthly basis, and had been doing well on it. He was such a good man-- I wish I'd gotten to know him better. :(

I just sent out this prayer request to our congregation plus family and friends:

Thank you, all, for covering grandniece Allegra in prayer, as she is enroute, with layovers, home from China (where she has been working with abandoned/disabled orphans). She is due into Minneapolis some time tomorrow, Tuesday. Thanks be to God for His mercies in surrounding Allegra with His holy angels, including all of you prayer warriors!

I don't remember if I posted anything here, or not, when she left for China. She is such a precious girl, just out of high school, she decided to take a year off before starting college. She paid her own way from baby-sitting and teaching tennis this summer and was not part of any group, heading out on her own. I knew that she is fluent enough in French (she attended a French-immersion grade school) to be an interpreter. What I learned (after she left for China) is that she studied Chinese language in junior high. Good thing. She told her mom the people she works with don't know any English, and they tell her that her Chinese is very good!

I'll see if I can find the link to the people she heard about asking for volunteers, a young couple that got a burden from the Lord to sell everything and go to China to rescue children.

Here's a photo of Allegra, as sweet and quiet of character as she is beautiful, big-hearted since she was a child. I know you would all love her - what a gift from heaven:

How about sharing the rest of the recipe. Or, maybe Montgomery Pie is just a pie shell filled with syrup.

Now who could keep up with these chatterboxes!

You all are invited to the porch for coffee and fruit salad with lima beans added! :D And I told my students repeatedly always to edit what they wrote! I froze the salad and Heaven Cake and Derby Pie. I'll cook the lima beans on Wednesday to take Thursday.

My favorite thing I've read today: My husband and I had words, but I didn't get to use mine (or
something like that). Thanks , Edy.

Mariane, your job as my agent has brought good results. After a long dry spell, Amazon sold 6 of my books in one day last week. Hooray!

You all stay warm (I'm guessing you'll have to stay inside to do that!)

Oh, oh! Dental appointment at 9:00am this morning!

Gotta keep all my chompers tuned up and in good working order, ya know. Gonna need them big time in a couple of days.

Verna, lima beans in fruit salad? Surely you jest!

Okay, that's it, I admit it. I would flunk 8th grade if I had to take that test!

Don, I hope you had a real good time at the dentist. Sometimes it's good for a few laughs. (Pun intended.)

Hey, it's Thanksgiving Eve. As I mentioned before, my mother died the day before Thanksgiving, but I have lots of good memories of this day, too. I had a favorite aunt and uncle who used to come and spend the night with us. My uncle liked to watch my mom get the turkey ready the night before to start cooking. She cooked it all night long. I can still remember him in the kitchen watching Mom pull pin feathers out of the turkey.

I am supposed to be writing, but wanted to sneak over here to say hi. Y'all take care and have a wonderful day before Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the invite. But the only boat I will have these days is a rowing boat. I think it might take me some time to row across the pond from the U.K. :bow

Start rowing! We'll wait. There's always room on the porch.

Edy, I forgot to tell you I enjoyed seeing the pic of your grandniece. What a sweet soul she must be. I have a grandniece serving on a mission in Haiti. Actually, she's an assistant principal at a school there. We are very proud of her.

Nope, Don,--lima beans and frozen salad and heaven cake and derby pie (minus the bourbon)--that's my share.

Edy, your grandniece is lovely. Thankful with you for angels surrounding her.

And to all--I'm thankful for so many things. . . including friends here. Happy Thanksgiving!
