Let us know all about it, OK?

Yes, it is a large non-denominational Bible preaching church with a passion for lost souls.

The church's auditorium where the contemporary services are held will seat about 4,000 people. I attend their traditional service chapel that will seat 400. They are both packed on Sunday for two services each.

Obviously, Don, you have found just the right church for you (and me!). What a grand time you will have at that concert!

We're taking my dad here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg408mnr-wU for 7 days. This is his vacation so he's in charge of siteseeing. I'll leave it to you to google the area. I think it's 5 hours south east from where we live travelling in Norm's peanut of a car. My car needs some carpark damage repaired while we're away. Don't you love people who hit and run in parking lots? I wouldn't worry but there's about $3,000AU done to my car that's less than 3 months old.

I'm babysitting my granddaghter all day today and try to read up the house for a friend who is staying to look after Tammy and the gardens.

I'll try and work out how to post photos again on Faithwriters and share some holiday fun with you all.

Chrissy

How 'bout some wakin' up, rollin' outa bed, heart thumpin' music from the Beachboys? Yea!!!

Singin' along all together now - one..two...three...

When I take her to the track she really shines
(giddy up giddy up 409)
She always turns in the fastest times
(giddy up giddy up 409)
My four speed dual quad posi-traction 409
(409, 409, 409, 409)

Note: Today, most people who did not grow up in the muscle car era of the 1960’s wouldn’t know what the number “409” meant, nor would they know which vehicle had it available. Do you know?

From the song, the line “My four speed dual quad posi-traction 409” would likely be foreign to them as well. Do you know what those things are?

Don, I'm almost the same vintage as you  but I never heard of it. Sorry, but I was never in to cars, like all the boys probably were. But, I am glad to see you having a Great Gettin' Up Mornin' even on this rather dreary day in Minnesota (we were out and about in the fog, last night! Uff da).

Chrissy, I'm delighted to hear you have such a lovely vacation with your dad planned. Times like that are some of my most cherished memories. I remember my dad telling me that a few days away at Rutger's Lodge on Bay Lake that I arranged for a bunch of family one summer was "perhaps the best time we ever had." His words then and now continue to mean the world to me.

When I was a kid in the 1950's in small town South Dakota, halloween was the devil's holiday. The trick or treating continued for 2-3 nights, but real destructive violence happened on the 31st. Our one town cop couldn't be everywhere to stop it, so he stayed home. It was like the wild, wild West.

These are some things I remember:

* In town, if things weren't chained down they got moved.
* The farm equipment dealer in town found his machinery scattered all over town in people's yards.
* Streets were blocked with garbage cans, lumber, and moved vehicles.
* A VW got carried onto the front steps of the bank.
* Farmer's haystacks were torched.
* Fences were cut allowing livestock to run free.
* Almost every outhouse in town was tipped over - there was very little house plumbing.
* The cop's car was chained to a tree.
* Storefront windows were broken.
* Roving bands of older teens and 20's moved from town to town to do damage.
* The Lutheran Church was broken into, crates of chickens released inside, then the church bells were rung at midnight.
* Tomatoes and eggs were thrown onto houses and cars.

The next morning it was almost a ritual for the town's folk to drive around town to survey the damage done - and joke about it!

Thankfully, I moved out before I was old enough to be involved in that stuff. Of course I wouldn't have done those things anyway.

Don, those were horrible vandals, way beyond the "prank" level. They should have had a good whippin' especially if they were of age to know better. You might want to share that list at this site, with many comments on how people "got even" with those who vandalized their property:
http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/mo ... nting.html

Here's an example:

David Plumley •
It was 2:30 AM when the door bell rang. My wife jumps out of bed and starts to go down the hall to answer the door. I asked her where she was going and she said to answer the door. I told not at 2:30 in the morning, I will do that. I went down stairs and found nobody, went back up stairs and changed into my clothes. My wife asked what was going on. I told her nobody was at the door, but they would be back in about half an hour. I told her when she hears the door bell to not answer it. Sure enough, they came back in half an hour and rang the door bell. I came out from the side of the house and asked them what they wanted and threw a water balloon at them. They never came back.

For Hallowe'en, we've given out fun-size candy bars wrapped in a child-appropriate tract for the mission field coming to our door, telling the children they get double treats at our house if they can tell us a Bible verse. I've collected a few funny stories of our results. If they don't have one for us, we tell them they can find one in their treat, to learn for next year.

This year, thanks to a young artist at church, whose mom shared his neat ideas with us on facebook, I have my treats all ready to go. I wore out three felt-tip markers getting these ready:

Edy--love your "witness" treats!

Don, when I was a kid in a little town in Ohio, the big fun Halloween fun for teen-age boys was to to turn over outhouses. It was not quite as bad when lilacs grew all around!

Hope you have a lovely vacation with family, Chrissy.

Thinking of you today, dear Mariane.

Wishing all on the porch a blessed week-end.

I shudder to think of the people who answered the door on Halloween night, saw a small paper bag on fire and stomped it out, realizing too late it was full of wet cow manure. :shocked

At 6 am today, grandson Charles was sitting at my computer when we had a power outage, causing total darkness in our entire community. Charles was stunned into silence. Finally, he turned to me in the blackness and asked in a very small, shaky voice, "Grandma, did I just die or something?" I took the 3 steps from my chair to him in lightening speed and hugged him and laughed. "No, honey, it's just a power outage. Maybe someone hit a telephone pole and it knocked off all the lights." He thought for a minute, then said, "Then maybe somebody else just died." Goodness, how do you answer things like this?
"I long, O I long to be holy, conformed to His will and His Word.
I long to be gentle and Christ-like; I long to be just like my Lord."

I don't know if this story is true or not, but I'll tell it as I read it.

In one community a favorite Halloween pastime was to place large pumpkins in the street. Then, other people would drive over them at high speed causing quite a splatter in the road.

One time someone got the bright idea to fill the pumpkins with wet cement, then after it dried the pumpkins were dragged into the street. When the speeding cars hit the rock-hard pumpkins there was a splattering of a different sort.

Steering tie-rods and mufflers were ripped from the cars and left scattered along the road.

The 1950's troublemakers in my home town never thought of doing that.

My dad used to brag, I mean tell the story, of how him and his brothers would go out on Halloween and move outhouses. They didn't move them far--- just a couple of feet back. Splatt!

After turning your clocks back last night, don't y'all feel refreshed, bright-eyed, and bushy-tailed - like ya just woke up from a nice 1 hour nap?

Hmmm…..I didn't think so. It didn't affect me that way either. It caused me to wake up an hour earlier, and now I'm thinkin' about a real nap.
