I'm not having any issues either.

Did anyone else from the porch enter the testimony contest? Don? Is the Don on that list you? I don't think I know your last name, so I wasn't sure.

Nope...It wasn't me.

Maybe it's the "Minnesota Connection" that's the problem. I click the FW link from the email, then go about some other business while waiting, sometimes forgetting to check back until much later, and by that time I forgot what I planned to post! So, I sympathize, Don.

Howdy to one and all! We're recovering from celebrating Howard's birthday (three separate parties). He's so popular we can't do it in one sitting. We also have been following my grand-niece and her tiny twin boys born by C-section at 35 weeks. That makes four preemies, all boys, in the extended family since May.

One of them, my brother Michael's grandson, arrived by emergency C-section when his mother developed severe toxemia, which is a life-threatening situation or, tougher yet, •HELLP Syndrome ( hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) – A condition usually occurring late in pregnancy that affects the breakdown of red blood cells, how the blood clots, and liver function for the pregnant woman.* (from AmericanPregnancy.org ) HELLP was a new to me diagnosis not yet identified when I was doing OB nursing. I learned about it from my cousin, also an OB nurse. She described the patient she had, diagnosed with it, who, tragically, didn't make it.

All of our mamas and babies are doing well, praise the Lord; our wee grandson, I've learned, had only two vessels in his umbilical cord, a flag that something is amiss. A scan showed he has only one kidney, but he's doing fine otherwise. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Greetings to all--even the Gremlins!

I have been snowed under with edits for SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE BLUE, and now I'm done, and my editor has finished, and my granddaughter-graphic artists have my completed manuscript to work on. This book is going to be very much like the first one except for the section about the church. I confess that I've begun to have "author's doubts," but in any case, I hope it will be out by October 2, when the first one was published. Some poems about my parents and siblings are extra special to me. A poem about my mom and her thoughts about my baby brother who died and one about my dad inviting me to share the dasher after he'd made ice cream make me cry every time I read them.

Chrissy, I so appreciate your getting my first book. I need to check in with Createspace to see why it doesn't show up that one was sold, but perhaps they already had one on hand where your husband ordered. I have seen it pop up in some strange places--even on text book lists for hundreds of dollars. Now that made me smile. I can't wait to see how your mum's book turns out.

Edy, I glad your husband had a special birthday, and I'm thankful with you for the safe births in your family. There is nothing sweeter than a precious baby. My new great grandbabies have brought so much joy along with them. My mother's mother died of toxemia when my mother was 12, and Mama never got over missing her best friend. I was always so sorry I never met her.

My dear Mariane, I hope you're feeling well.

I hope you all have a blessed weekend.

Verna, Norm purchased the book through Fishpond so I'm not sure of their source.

I read a couple of the season poems to Norm last night and got a chuckle from him here and there. For a man who sees no sense in poetry (except mine of course) he liked yours and asked for another. :) That's a great response from him.

Well, let's see here... Since subtlety hasn't worked, I guess I'll just come right out and say it. :)

My testimony made it in the testimony book! I"m excited. For those that haven't read it (I think most of you have) I have an "old" version on my writer profile, but I reworked it and tweaked it for the contest. :)

Toxemia, wow! We nearly lost our daughter to that with her first baby. It was so scary.

okay, now it's my turn for a little brag. ;) My Mum's book is now available. You'll find the link on the book page of my website.

I hope you will check the link, then chose 'Order" below Mum's book. It will take you to the description pages first so it won't bite.

Due to the Highway Beautification Act, enacted by First Lady Ladybird Johnson, many roadside signs came down. Plus, television had come into its own, making billboards less important for advertising. The Burma-Vita company, makers of Burma Shave, tried to make a go of T.V. advertising, but people preferred the signs. The Burma-Vita company closed down in the early 60s.

I used to have a copy of the book, "The Verse By the Side of the Road; The story of the Burma Shave Signs", that tells the origin of Burma Shave and the iconic signs used to advertise it.
Incidentally, the one about Paul Revere was protested by beer haulers; they sent a letter to Burma-Vita protesting that it made them look bad, and the men who hauled beer for a living shaved too. The company policy was to never offend, so that particular sign was taken down.

But it's an interesting book; check Amazon or any of the other online retailers to see if a copy is available.

I cannot get this to go through. It keeps sending me back to page 1399. I'll try later. My goodness.
