extraordinary wrote:There are many passages warning of man losing eternal life!
Let's concentrate on one area at a time ...
These warning passages were written to BACs ... please read carefully ...
Rom 6:16-23 • “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey,
you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether (slaves) of sin leading to (eternal) death,
OR (slaves) of obedience leading to righteousness? … so now present your members
as slaves of righteousness for holiness … For the wages of sin is (eternal) death …”
Rom 8:3-8 • “He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law
might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,
but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is (eternal) death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God,
nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
Rom 8:13-14 • “For if you live according to the flesh you will die (spiritually);
but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live (spiritually).
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Those BACs above who were guilty of being slaves of sin, etc. were not righteous any more,
so they had fallen from grace and salvation ...
and this favorite verse of many no longer applies to them:
Rom 5:21 • “grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ”
Please don't throw a whole pile of other verses at me ... let's just focus on those above.
We understand what you are saying . . .
What we (think I can speak for more of us) is that these verses need to be seen within the larger picture of what God is doing.
It is an indepth study and I also am hesitant to get into it due to timeframes. This is also an area that has been discussed much and people won't always agree. I have reviewed the scriptures you have posed in the past, as I am sure others have also taken them into consideration. For now, knowing those scriptures and others . . . I have yet to change my position on it.
I know I said I haven't done the prayerful study, but in reality I did learn some of this due to the Lord bringing my attention to it during a time I was very worried about another's condition and how the Lord didn't seem in any hurry to change them. I won't see I understood all that He showed me exactly as it is; that I didn't get some things wrong . . . Just saying.
If there were others that have settled with OSAS as correct doctrine, they will bring up scriptures that have to do with God's faithfulness, no one ever snatching us from his hand, etc . . . etc, etc. Others will debate, yes, but that doesn't mean one cannot throw it away, then the scriptures on "God's chosen" and God bringing them through will be brought up. Most have their mind made up, but that can be changed with the Lord as He sees fit. Yet, considering the depth of it . . . some of us are hesitant to fully dive in.
We can discuss all that, but it is timeconsuming and not all of us have the time to address it now. I just got back on the computer and my father is already trying to get me off to move on to other things . . . I spend much of my time here, practically live in their home because they are elderly and need help, and will be renting my home next month because I am barely there.
I use to moderate on a Christian dreams and visions forum and one of the things I used to stress is that when one dreams, one needs to understand the details of the dream within the overall message.
For instance, just because you see a dog and feel fear doesn't mean the dog is vicious. The Lord may just be trying to show you a fear that you have. Now, if in the dream you just know by revelation that the dog is vicious, if it is a God dream then I would say that He is giving you revelation . . . but of course, the dreamer needs to confirm that with the Lord.
It's the same with scripture. One needs to understand the whole of what God is doing, the larger circle, and then the portions need to fit into it.
Now I must sign off as pa wants to get out of the house. We are going to all you can eat for lunch.
