Maybe true, but you need to let the powers that be know.

One things for sure, it won't be just your bait that will be useless but too of those who may now decide to take a break from the city and fish. mmmmm....ammeter fisherman with smelly bait. ugh How long will they stay? The fish too.

Don, I would at least let my feelings known. I have loved this river for many years, long before we bought a cottage here. I'd die if life here was messed up in anyway on the river even if they moved our supply store further away or our mail collection box.

I hope something comes good out of this.

Write incognito, Don! If necessary, use my name, as if I am forwarding a note I received from a friend who prefers to remain nameless. That should work, since you aren't the only citizen who lives on that lake in that municipality.

I already checked on our local newspaper. They require the writer's name and city published with the letter. They also require the address and phone number for their records.

I don't really want my city officials to hate me...or worse.

I'll check out other places.

River, it's so good to see you on board again! :welcome When I first saw your picture, I said to myself, "Whoa! Hollywood has sent someone to our porch?" You look FABULOUS! And congrats on selling so many of your books! :clap I sold two copies of my book "Prisms Of The Heart." Both to my mother and she gave one away! You're so good meeting the public and that's how books get sold. I'm too shy to appear in bookstores and I'd probably tell everyone who inquired that my book isn't very good and they should spend their money on something worthwhile! I shoot myself in the foot all the time that way. :rolling Is there a reason you're incognito and would you prefer that we not use your real name? Sometime (if you want to), fill us in on what you've been doing during your sabbatical or hiatus or vacation or interval or whatever you called it. Weren't you in seminary or something similar?

Don, who was responsible for that famous quote,""All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I rest my case. :-| :bow :P (I think his initials were Edmund Burke) :clap

I' wanted to paint a red cardinal on a wooden egg for George's wife but my left eye is failing at a rather alarming rate. Close up work puts my eyes out of focus. It's gotten progressively worse over the years and probably is the reason I trip and fall so much. If you think about it sometime, I wish you'd pray about it. Good eyesight is not only a blessing but a necessity. All I need is a broken hip from one of these falls.

I miss Laurie, Carol and Debby (among others). Don't you? :?: :?:

I'd better think about lunch now. John is out running some errands so my lunch will be simple, as in a bagel or something.

Group hugs! :grouphug :grouphug2 :grouphug3
(singing):
"Cover me, Lord, with Your presence,
Cover me, Lord, with Your righteousness,
Cover me, Lord, with Your holiness,
Lord Jesus, cover me."

Don, get a group of others who enjoy the lake and find out if there are any city council meetings, and attend them in order to make your case. They won't "disappear" you--this is America, not some other country with a repressive government. Be loud and proud. Write letters to the editor in every paper in your area, even in your state. And keep beating the drum. Don't just show up once and disappear, keep hounding them. And yes, get the local media involved. They can't do anything if they know they're being watched by people who care.

Well isn't this special! My BIL didn't give a reference link, so I cannot verify if this is true or not, but it is interesting! 8)

Gender differences have sparked everything from self-help books and talk shows to romantic comedies and family disputes. They’ve been to blame for divorces, poor communication, differing management styles, and even interpretations of basic facts.

While much discussion has been had around this Mars versus Venus distinction, is there any truth to it? Are men and women really that different? Turns out, we are!

Completely Different Planets

Did you know that, globally, 107 boys are born to every 100 girls? However, boy babies are 25 percent more likely to die in infancy than girls. OB nurse that I was, I knew this.

At the opposite end of life, men die more than five years sooner, on average, than women. The most common cause? Heart disease, with the average age of the first attack in a man coming at age 66.

And that’s just the beginning! Here are a few fascinating facts about the eyes. Go ahead and astound your friends and family with you new found knowledge!

A man’s brain is about 10 percent larger in total size than a woman's.
When focused on a project, men tend to use just one side of their brain at a time. Conversely, women tend to use both sides simultaneously.

Men have more grey matter in their brain, while women have more white matter. Grey matter involves functions such as muscle control and sensory perception, while white matter increases the speed at which communications are processed.

In the brain, men have a larger parietal cortex and amygdala, which helps with spatially related tasks, map reading, and math. Women have larger frontal lobes and limbic cortex, which gives them an advantage with problem solving and emotions.

Women have a better sense of smell than men.

The largest cell in the human body is the female egg. The smallest? Sperm.

Women have four times as many foot problems as men.

Men have an average of 50 percent more muscle mass and 50 percent less body fat than women.

90 percent of women wash their hands after using the bathroom, as compared to just 75 percent of men, but...According to researchers from the University of Colorado, women have twice as many bacteria species on their hands as men.

Women spend about two years of their life looking in a mirror. Men? Just six month.

The average man speaks about 2,000 words a day. Women utter more than 7,000 words daily.

Men get hiccups more often than women.

Seven out of 100 men have color blindness. Just one woman in 1,000 has the condition.

Men with a little extra “padding” are happier than thin men. The complete opposite is true for women.

And, this message arrived in my inbox from my Howard:
SOME THINGS DON'T CHANGE...

We hang petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office.
~Aesop, Greek slave & fable author

Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.
~Plato, ancient Greek Philosopher

Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build a bridge even where there is no river.
~Nikita Khrushchev, Russian Soviet politician

When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I'm/beginning to believe it.
~Quoted in 'Clarence Darrow for the Defense' by Irving Stone. My favorite! :P

Politicians are people who, when they see light at the end of the tunnel, go out and buy some more tunnel.
~John Quinton, American actor/writer

Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other.
~Oscar Ameringer, "the Mark Twain of American Socialism."

I offered my opponents a deal: "if they stop telling lies about me, I will stop telling the truth about them."
~Adlai Stevenson, campaign speech, 1952

A politician is a fellow who will lay down your life for his country.
~Texas Guinan. 19th century American businessman

I have come to the conclusion that politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians.
~Charles de Gaulle, French general & politician

Instead of giving a politician the keys to the city, it might be better to change the locks.
~Doug Larson (English middle-distance runner who won gold medals at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, 1902-1981)

I am reminded of a joke: What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That's pollution. What happens if all of them drown? That's a solution!!!

I thought it was 105 females to 100 males born.

Men have map-reading ability? Is that why they don't ask for directions, even when they're hopelessly lost?

Well, of course women use their whole brain--women are global thinkers, accessing past, present and future, while men are stuck in the present. Women learn from mistakes better than men do.

Not bashing guys, this is what I've observed.

I thought Texas Guinan was a woman--I remember when LIFE magazine had a feature on American women, she was one of them.

Deejay, you are an encyclopedic resource! 105 to 100 is what I heard working OB, but perhaps that was U.S. figures, and the rest of the world needs more boys born to make up for their greater losses? God knows!

I enjoyed reading your other observations, too. I do have to agree. God's design, it takes a man and a woman to make a whole! "In His image...male and female, created he them."

For the past two days I have been hearing an audible noise that seems to occur in a recurring pattern. The noise is similar to the sharp, repeating "chirp" sound indicating a low battery in a smoke detector. But that's not it.

The noise is more like a soft "tweet" sound, and seems to slowly repeat in regular intervals. I will hear a "tweet"..."tweet"..."tweet", then silence for a minute or so. Then, a double "tweet"..."tweet" will be heard, or a single "tweet" sound will sometimes happen. After another minute or so the triple "tweets" will be heard starting the sequence all over again. The "tweets" have a tone much like the zone violation warnings given by my security system, but much softer. However, that's not it either.

I checked out the alarm system and found no problem with the control pads. I listened very carefully beneath each of my six smoke detectors as well as each of my four CO detectors. Yes, I have a big house, and have detectors all over the place. The "tweet" sound did not seem to be coming from any of them. Besides, all of the batteries had been changed in March.

I even checked a hi-tech clock that will chirp/tweet, or whatever, when it needs programing attention. There was no problem with that, either. By the way, my watch and phone doesn't "tweet", thank goodness!

Okay, the "tweets" were starting to annoy me. I stepped out onto the deck for some fresh air and even heard them out there. They seemed to be following me wherever I went.

The "tweets" continue to plague me. I either need to re-charge my body batteries, or have my ears checked.
