Verna, don't forget about the poor, hungry little mice!

Bird seed on the ground will attract mice from the neighborhood, too. A ground-level feast for them within 50' of your house will almost guarantee they will find a way inside when the weather turns cold.

Also, any left-over seed on the ground will sprout and grow in your yard...and it won't be Kentucky Blue grass, either.

I always say that the Urbana Student Missions Conference is a little taste of heaven. 15,000+ people, mostly college aged, singing together (or ATTEMPTING to sing) in multiple languages.

This one we had four languages going at once by the end. SO amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88rPEfh0UuQ
And no, this is not my video, though I do have my own video of this same song, so you can't hear me. Well, I mean, you can't pick me out at least. I suppose technically you can hear me. ;)

This one (again not mine) is actually from Urbana 2009, but I think it just may capture the heart of worship at Urbana the best. This one was taken on New Years eve, while were were sharing communion with 15,000+ believers. SO amazing. There's a bit of a jump/skip in this video, but I still love it. The cheering at "up from the grave He rose again" always makes me smile.

WOW,Allison! What a treat that must be!! I get so excited when I see all these conferences and conventions for Christian youth these days. Bless the men and women behind them who work so hard all year long to bring it about.

I've just discovered a treasure trove of sacred music on Youtube. There are
50 hymns by this wonderful group, one after the other:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVk3rs1l ... YA38HWZJtI

At the top right when you get to the site, there is a 1/50 sign on the top right. This is the first of 50 hymns. The second hymn is "What A Day That Will Be When My Savior I shall See." Magnificent!!! It will automatically go to it. I just let it continue playing while I do other things on the computer. What a BLESSING !!!

I think I posted one of their songs earlier but here are 50 that play one after another! I LOVE THIS!

"I long, O I long to be holy, conformed to His will and His Word.
I long to be gentle and Christ-like; I long to be just like my Lord."

I recognize the melody on this one, but cannot pull up from the recesses of my brain the English words to it:

Does anybody understand Dutch/German/whatever the language? or can otherwise give me the title?

Thanks so much, Mariane. I'm having a delightful time listening to so many familiar old melodies. I am partial to good choral harmony, good Lutheran that I am. 8)

Isn't it Beautiful ??? If you hear any others that impress you but you don't know the lyrics, we can all search. I'm still trying the determine what language this is. What language do people in the Netherlands speak? I just looked it up. The official language is Dutch but German is also spoken. You were right, Edy.

Thank you, Don, that was so kind of you, even though it was much more information than I expected, wanted, or will ever need to use.

My Navy nurse friend just sent this by email, good for some merry heart medicine:

A priest dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him is a guy who's dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket, and jeans.

Saint Peter addresses this cool guy, 'Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven?'

The guy replies, 'I'm Jack, retired airline pilot from Houston.'

Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the pilot, 'Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom.' The pilot goes into Heaven with his robe and staff.

Next, it's the priest's turn. He stands erect and booms out, 'I am Father Bob, pastor of Saint Mary's for the last 43 years.'

Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the priest, 'Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom.

'Just a minute,' says the good father. 'That man was a pilot and he gets a silken robe and golden staff and I get only cotton and wood. How can this be?

'Up here - we go by results,' says Saint Peter. 'When you preached - people slept. When he flew, people prayed.'

Morning all,

Allison, I'm glad you could have the opportunity to attend such encouraging conferences. When I was a teen, we went every year to our church's youth camp, and what a joy that was--seeing p.k.'s and others I'd gone to children's camp with. We rocked the tabernacle with our singing---but I'm sure not nearly so much as kids now.

Mariane, the music is lovely, but I wanted to understand the words. Though I remember many of them, I can't recall all of them. Those old hymns are still the most beautiful songs on earth to me. I want to sing in the "hymn" choir when I go to heaven.

Don, the inch worms were only here for about a month, but they took leaves, stem, and any promise of roses. So far, I see no sign of mice, but they may creep up at night. The small birds were shy of the new bird feeder at first, but now it is their favorite. It is fun to watch them sittin' and "swangin."

I'm still loving the little wrens that perch on the flower basket right outside the window where my desk is and serenade me.

It's a good day to stay in out of the heat.

 Yesterday I moved the framework that supports my wood duck house from the lake onto the shore. I dug holes for the four support posts to anchor the frame, and there the unit will stay year around. I just can't wrestle that heavy thing in and out of the water each spring and fall anymore. My back and muscles have turned to mush during the past couple of years...not to mention that my stability and balance has also gone south.

This is the first year in 15 years that wood ducks did not nest there. However, my wrens finally showed up - a month late.

Also yesterday, I cleaned out my deck gazebo to get it ready for a painting crew to power wash and seal the wood. They did the deck last week. Neither the deck or gazebo had been used for the past 2 summers. The gazebo is a good storage space for deck furniture (and more) during the winter, but it had remained that way for the past 2 summers, too. However, with Carol gone they probably won't be used now either.

Last week a tree trimming crew of 4 guys was here for a whole day cutting large limbs and branches from my backyard trees. They hauled away a truck load of shredded wood. Now I can actually see my dock and the lake from the house.

This week my yard maintenance crew will be here to trim all of my bushes and shrubs. It's an annual necessity, but I can't do that anymore either.

Tomorrow I will take my SUV filled with useless stuff to a re-cycle center. Note: the "stuff" will be re-cycled, not my SUV.

Why am I doing all of this? I don't know.

Don

You have been a busy beaver, Don! My Howard grumbles when I mention hiring someone to trim trees, etc. He says he worked so hard for his money, he wants to save it. I say I worked so hard for my money, I want to enjoy it! We're so well balanced.

He seems to think he's still able to crawl up and down trees like a kid, and he's even older than I am! He doesn't protest, however, when I tell him, "Just wait until you and your brother take your next trip to Tennessee!"

I hope he will be pleasantly surprised upon his return. :P

I'm just so grateful that I have my army retirement income to be able to help keep the younger folks employed...since their taxes keep us from the poor house! What a Ponzi scheme, huh?

That is a keeper, Edy! However, what once was will never be again. There are several reasons why that could never happen today.

1) The Department of Homeland Security will soon have such objects of destruction declared illegal.

2) Anything tossed toward the audience and President would bounce off the clear, bullet-proof shield separating them and the performer.

3) Anyone proposing such a performance in front of the President would never pass the special background check.

4) The performer would be quickly labeled as a terrorist and sent to a re-habilitation camp.

5) It's tough to juggle such things when the juggler is in a strait-jacket and leg irons.

6) Medicine for a merry heart caused by belly laughs is not approved under the new 2,600 page healthcare package.
