D.J. thanks for solving the puzzle for us! Damon's not a bad name and I'm sure you've always been grateful that your first name was spelled with an "a" instead of an "e.

But for the protective hand of God, things could be very different here today. While my son's girlfriend was driving my grandsons to church Sunday (Tim had to go earlier), a tire on Christine's car literally exploded on a busy highway where accidents are common and pile-ups are just as common. Had Christine not used her best driving skills in maneuvering her car over to the shoulder, there's no telling what might have happened. This is the only road leading back from this beach and the Sunday traffic is
unbelievable as drivers are returning back to their homes across the state. John said he had never seen a tire so completely blown apart. Thank you, Father, for protecting those precious to me in that car. "And He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Thank You over and over.
"O Jesus, Jesus, dearest Lord, forgive me if I say
For very love, thy sacred name, a thousand times a day.
O Jesus, Lord, with me abide; I rest in Thee whate'er betide.
Thy gracious smile is my reward. I love, I love Thee, Lord.

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them - the scripture my little sister quoted for me after I rolled a car. Praise the Lord for His mercies! I'm so grateful your precious loved ones were spared, Mariane!

The neighborhood in the city (Savage - 15/20 miles from me) where my son and daughter-in-law live has been without power since Friday's storm.

A year ago they purchased a small generator as a back-up for such an event. Their investment is now being used for the first time. The generator has kept their refrigerator, freezer, a few lights, and cell phone charger working. They only need to keep gasoline in the generator's motor tank.

They MIGHT get their power back tomorrow - 5 days after the storm.

The large church in Eden Prairie where I worship had no power on Sunday. They were able to use their emergency back-up power to provide some lighting, and power for the microphones. Other than that, the service went as scheduled.

WE are supposed to get more nasty weather later today and tonight. It has been a record-breaking past few days. Our state will need to change its slogan from "Minnesota-Nice" to "Minnesota-Not-So-Nice".

Wow, Don. I did not realize that there were parts of Savage still without power. I know that when it went out on Friday night, Xcel told one of my friends in Prior Lake that it could be midnight on Sunday when they got it back. Later I heard "parts of the Cities" were without power and expected to be out until Sunday. As far as I know, we did not loose power in Shakopee. I was at the church in Prior Lake when it went out. They had power by church on Sunday, but I don't know when it come back on. As we left on Friday, we wondered what lights we had left on. 8)

For those not from MN, Savage is a southern suburb of Mpls that is located between Burnsville, Shakopee and Prior Lake. I work for the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools. Prior Lake High School is within the boundaries of Savage, but I think the majority of the town is in the Burnsville school district. A very small portion goes to Shakopee schools.

My son got his power back early yesterday! :superhappy

During the outage he not only used his generator to power their important things, but he also had extension cords going to the neighbors on each side of him to power their things. 8)

Notes For The Milkman
(back in the good old days!)
These are actual notes left for the Milkman

"Dear Milkman,
I've just had a baby, please leave another one."

"Please leave an extra pint of paralyzed milk."

"Please don't leave any more milk.
All they do is drink it."

"Sorry not to have paid your bill before,
but my wife had a baby, and I've been carrying it
around in my pocket for weeks."

"Sorry about yesterday's note.
I didn't mean one egg and a dozen pints,
but the other way 'round."

"When you leave my milk, knock on my bedroom
window and wake me because
I want you to give me a hand to turn the mattress."

"Please knock. My TV's broken down, and I missed
last night's SOPRANOS.
If you saw it, will you tell me what happened?"

"My daughter says she wants a milkshake.
Do you do it before you
deliver, or do I have to shake the bottle?"

"Please send me a form for cheap milk,
for I have a baby two months old and
did not know about it until a neighbor told me."

"Milk is needed for the baby.
Father is unable to supply it."

"From now on please leave two pints every other day and
one pint on the days in between, except Wednesdays
and Saturdays when I don't want any milk."

"My back door is open. Please put milk in 'fridge,
get money out of cup in drawer and leave change on
kitchen table, because we want to play
bingo tonight."

"Please leave no milk today. When I say today,
I mean tomorrow, for I
wrote this note yesterday...or is it today ?"

"When you come with the milk please put the coal on the boiler,
let dog out, and put newspaper inside the screen door.
P.S. Don't leave any milk."

"No milk. Please do not leave milk at No. 14 either
as he is dead until further notice."

Don, as usual, you make me smile.

Damon is a very nice name. I like it.

Joanney, I hope that's the end of the trees keeling over.

Mariane, I love the milkman list.

Edy, Hope you stay safe

Now for the latest update on the squirrels on and around our bird feeders. None today, thank you. A big hawk has been perched atop the feeders.I think he thinned out what was left of the squirrel population. Even the mama birds are keeping the little ones away.

You wanna live there? Come and join the others who live there. It's not a bad place, but you'll need to brush up on some horse racing history first.

Savage, MN was the home of the famous pacer horse Dan Patch. In the early 1900's that horse was known as the greatest Pacer to ever set foot (hoof) on the track. Savage celebrates Dan Patch Days every summer.

The city of Savage was named after the one who owned and trained Dan Patch.

Betcha didn't know any of that stuff!

Minnesota is chock full of history, but that's a new one that I didn't know, Don. Thanks for being our tour guide. 8)

DJ, you'd be more than welcome to join all the Minnesota FaithWriters. I think we're the largest contingent here on BeachGrandma's Southern Porch---we are south of the North Pole, so we're in good standing---that is if you count all the lurkers that pop in on rare occasions. :sofa

At one time, I think I counted eight of us. In 2007 five of us met for our own mini-FW conference and getting acquainted face to face felt like an old family reunion, catching up on everyone.

So, pack up your wagon, hitch up the horses, and head west, young man. We always have the welcome mat dusted off for new arrivals. Savage awaits additions to its population, especially if you like horses. :thumbs

D.J., I was born and raised in Dakota Territory...South Dakota, that is...but migrated to Minnesota over 50 years ago.

They say I rode a horse before I learned to walk, so I know a couple of things about those critters. Been tossed from them more than a few times (and busted up, too), but also have a sack full of ribbons from competition riding and other events at horse shows won many moons ago.

I gave up holding the reins after I became more citified (is that a word?). Then later, I somehow ended up here on the Minnesota extension of the Southern Porch with a bunch of excellent writers. Maybe some day I'll be able to put more than two words together to form a complete sentence - unless they kick me out first.

I knew that! When I first moved to the area, I got it confused on which was the horse and which was the owner, but I did know it. I think one of the quiz questions on the game show at the MN History Center is "Which town was named after the owner of a famous race horse?" and that is what clarified it in my mind. Having one child that is really into history made a Historic Society membership a great family Christmas gift for several years.

Talked to the tree company today. They will not get to my tree until Saturday. Two weeks after it fell. If I were the business owner, I would probably make the same decision that long-term customers without power were a higher priority, but it is still frustrating. Especially since the insurance adjuster can't do his job until the tree is removed.

Don, you do more writing than I do, so they will kick me off before they do you.
