What foods should I be eating?
For us "oldies," whose certain hormones have taken permanent leave and metabolism has slowed down, it's not only what we eat, but how much. Portions really matter when trying to lose weight, especially as we grow older. I watch my portions whenever I eat rice or any sort of pasta - (1 cup). I have eliminated meat and use beans, boiled egg whites, lentils, eggplant and veggie chicken and veggie meatballs as substitutes; evey now and then I have salmon or tuna. I have one slice of bread in the morning, and use sandwich thins whenever I make a sandwich. I also limit what salad dressings I add to my salad, and what sort of fruits I eat to keep my sugar intake at a minimum.
From past experience, I know dairy products WILL add pounds, at least on me; especially ice cream. So I avoid them. But every now and then when I'm eating out, I will "treat" myself.
Finally, exercise at least three times a week is a real must; again, at least for me.
I only eat three meals a day for an average of about 1200 -1250 calories, but should I feel hungry, I drink a glass of water. I also find that staying up late will encourage snacking. In addition, someone who weighs 150 lbs burns about 95 calories per hour while sleeping. Another reason to get 8 hrs. of sleep.
So that's my story.
Congratulations, Stina Rose for sticking with it. Keep up the good work! I love the http://www.myfitnesspal.com
