I wish you all could hear little Charles sing, "Hallelujah, Hallelujah" to a tune I'd never heard before. It must be something he learned at the Christian School he attends. His voice is so pure, so beautiful, he could easily sing in a boys' choir.

I love the Easter season even more than Christmas. I've always felt I spent much more time being excited about Easter Sunday than being heartbroken on Good Friday. To think that the God of creation would become flesh and take on the sins of all the world is way, way beyond my comprehension. Other religions demand works to gain us admission but our loving Savior provided it free! The only thing He asks is that we "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Nothing more; nothing less will assure us of heaven.

I had read in several places online that the next major doctrine of the church to be attacked will be the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Already, some churches are ignoring the resurrection but I wonder how they'll handle this cornerstone of our belief, "that If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9,10)

I pray for Rob Bell. He has considerable influence among the college age and young adults and his apostasy will cause considerable damage to the church. Many evangelical leaders are in touch with him, asking him to return to his faith.
"O Jesus, Jesus, dearest Lord, forgive me if I say
For very love, thy sacred name, a thousand times a day.
O Jesus, Lord, with me abide; I rest in Thee whate'er betide.
Thy gracious smile is my reward. I love, I love Thee, Lord.

Satan knows his time is short before being cast into the lake of fire forever. He is working overtime to discredit the Word of God, and as a prowling lion he will seek to destroy as many as possible by turning their eyes away from Jesus. He hates Christ-followers and the Jewish people, and they will be his primary focus.

Satan already has unbelievers in a death grip, so they no longer matter to him. With them, his only goal is to keep them there.

Satan's eternal demise is surely coming, and not a moment too soon. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

Don't forget our drawing for one of the new "When God Makes Lemonade" books which will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 6 p.m. EDST. The drawing is open to everyone, whether they visit the porch frequently or not. Just pick a number between (and including) 1 and 25. My grandson has already written a winning number on a piece of paper and has it hidden in his bedroom until tomorrow evening. So far these numbers have been chosen:

Allison - 13
Don -9
Verna - 6
Edy - 17
Barb - 3

Mariane, I love the Easter season, too, with the reminder of the cost our precious Savior paid for our salvation and the glorious promise of His resurrection. Welcome, Tomoro. The porch is always open.

The winning number is 23, so Edy came closest with a 17.

Edy, I believe you'll like this book. It's a huge improvement over the first one in the series!

Congrats!

WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT CROWN OF THORNS?
by Mariane Holbrook

What happened to that crown of thorns that pierced His blessed head,
The one we should have worn but one He chose to wear instead?
That crown whose thorns still carried stains of royal blood so rare
That DNA can’t match it; there's no sample to compare.

I’d like to think when God looked down upon His suffering Son
And wiped His ageless eyes in sadness at what man had done,
That God retrieved that blood-soaked crown and held it to His breast
So soldiers couldn’t hold it up, make fun of it in jest.

Perhaps God placed that crown of thorns in Heaven’s Trophy Case,
Reserved for things from martyrs who had known God’s special grace,
For Jesus was a martyr, too, the greatest One of all,
For laying down His life in answer to His Father’s call.

Some glorious day, all kings and queens will stand before the throne
From all the ages they’ll be there, the famous, the unknown.
They’ll look upon the Son of God who sits in Mercy’s Seat,
Then bending on their knees, they'll place their crowns at Jesus’ feet.

The faithful come before Him, those who worshipped Him on earth,
All saints since the Creation, all believers since His birth.
And there before the Master, stripped of meaningless façade,
They lay their crowns before Him, this beloved Son of God.

God strides to Heaven’s Trophy Case, removes the crown of thorns,
The one that Jesus wore when He endured those scoffs and scorns.
God lifts it high for all to see; as shouting fills the air,
The wood turns into diamonds, all the thorns to rubies rare.

The saints explode in worship, as the mighty choir sings,
"Hail, hail, our blessed Saviour, Lord of Lords and King of Kings,
You're worthy, blessed Jesus, and it's You whom we adore.
All heaven bows before You, You shall reign forevermore!"

It has been 3 1/2 weeks, but in my quiet moments as I reflect on our years together, my memories of Carol overwhelm my heart and soul to the point of tears. They seem as real as if they were happening all over again today.

I recall her soft voice giving me comfort and assurance. I picture the love in her eyes and her smiling face everywhere I look. Her sweet scent lingers in my mind like the aroma of fresh red roses. I can feel her gentle touch, and her arms surrounding me in a loving embrace. Hardly a day passed by in over 49 years without her sweet kisses and "I love you" coming from her lips.

Oh, the precious memories, how they linger. How they ever flood my soul. May the memories never dim and fade away from the depths of my mind.

No technology can replace God's gift to us of memory, that's for sure. We can look at photographs and read old love letters. We can watch old family movies and videos. We can listen to a loved one's voice recorded on tape. It all helps to jog memories. But only in our memories does it all come together. Only there can we relive the precious togetherness we once had and for which we look forward in anticipation when Jesus reveals the all things made new.

Last night I came across my composition notebook journal that I kept during my time in Vietnam. I'm so glad I wrote down some of those events! It's as if I've turned back the clock and am back there in uniform with all my friends.

What a lovely tribute to a beloved spouse, Don.

I like to think that Carol in heaven was asked for her input into the design of the "Well Done, Thou Good And Faithful Servant" crown that will await you someday in heaven.

Perhaps she walked with an angel to the Precious Metals Display Room to select the finest stones (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds) for your crown and then visited the Crown Designer's office to sketch the crown she has in mind. I can see her making a list of your best traits as husband, lover, provider, father, housekeeper, gourmet cook, chauffeur, nurse, caregiver, encourager, spiritual adviser, nurturer, comforter and best friend. All of these character distinctives and many, many more will be represented by a different precious stone. Carol's attention to detail impresses the master craftsman as he fills page after page in his "Custom Crown Designs" notebook. Before she is finished, confers with the Lord Jesus numerous times and makes several trips to the designers office, she will have covered every part of the life she shared with you, remembering how you'd skillfully handled situations during your 49 years of marriage and the raising of your two children.

Now, that's one crown I can't wait to see, Don!

Mariane, such an imagination you have! That is wild and crazy stuff! You should seriously consider doing "over-the-top" (pun intended) creative writing.

If there is a crown waiting for me, which I doubt, the only thing glued to it resembling a stone should be a tiny, grubby, hunk of sun-hardened clay found in some muddy, abandoned gravel pit. Even that would be way too good.

You know not of whom you speak. Me bad...me bad!
