looking for inspiration

Postby MitchellRyan » Mon Feb 18, 2013 10:41 pm

Hello,

First time on the site. I am in the very early stages (brainstorming and research) of preparing for my second novel. I usually get my motivation to write by reading something that moves me. How do I go about viewing other people's works?

Thanks,
Mitchell

Hi Mitchell, and welcome.

What genres do you enjoy reading/writing?

I'm a big fan of historical fiction. e.g. Ken Follett. Honestly, anything that can inspire me, make me think or keep me guessing fits the bill for me. Accord, I see you have written a pair of books. Did you find the second one easier or more difficult to write?

Overall, it was easier, but in some ways harder. It's completely unrelated to my first book, in a different genre, and shorter in length. I was able to apply a lot of lessons from my first effort, which mainly helped my editing process. My editors didn't find nearly as many errors, and my formatting was set up correctly from the start, so I didn't spend a lot of time with revisions/rewrites.

However, there was pressure to make it "better" in every way possible. I had to get over this and just write, because I'd get bogged down with uncertainty.

My third book is almost ready, and it went the smoothest (so far).

Welcome to FW! I'm delighted you found your way here. There are many awesome people here who are quite willing to reach out and help.

One of the most popular spots is the writing challenge. I always find it faSCINATING HOW SO MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE CAN WRITE SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT THE SAME TOPIC. (Ignore I'm not yelling. just have a droopy finger and too lazy to retype.) I do think you'd find the challenge articles quite inspirational.

If you find a particular author you really can relate to, if you click on their name it will take you to their profile page where you can see all of the articles they have on here.

I hope that helps some. Have fun perusing the site. It is amazing and is full of talent. Good luck with your next book too and :welcome
