front page showcase

Hi Jan,

I noted you were currently on letter "S" on the 500 member list for
Showcase. Does that mean anyone who recently joined and whose name starts with an L has little chance of being chosen for this year?

Unfortunately, yes.

When I first started doing this task, I did it rather hit-and-miss, just going through my list and clicking on names to see if they had material that I could use. There were two problems with that--first, I tended to zero in on names that I recognized from the writing challenge. That meant the 'old-timers' got showcased disproportionately, and people who only submited to regular articles (not the writing challenge) hardly at all. Second, it was hard for me to remember whose profile page I'd visited, so I'd visit some frequently, and some not at all. It just wasn't a very efficient or fair way of doing it.

So now, although it takes a while to cycle through the entire alphabet, I feel as if it's the best way. I'll eventually visit the home pages of all FW500 members, and no one will get missed, and no one will be used too frequently.

Hi Jan. Is there some way to view past Showcase articles. I had a story that was going to be on the Showcase back on August 8, 2011. I wondered if there is a way I can see that again. Thanks.

Hi Ruth.

I don't think so. As far as I'm aware, the showcase page is just copied over each week with the new article.

Hi Bea - as a small concession, would you consider including Gold Members' Challenge articles along withn 500 Members for inclusion in the front page showcase?

Hi Bea, That would be great if it's not too much trouble. Jan had said on feedback on a story of mine that she planned to use it as the showcase for August 8, 2011 and I'm not sure that I remembered to look for it. The story is called, Just One Family. Thanks.

Will someone tell me what this front page showcase is all about? Is it something you submit to or is it something chosen by faithwriters to go on it's front page? This is the first I've heard about it. (I must admit i am a little slow lol)

Hi Lynn,
The Front Page Showcase is an article chosen by FW's to be recognized and for want of a better word 'showcased' each week. I go through a list of the 500 members (chronologically by when they joined) and look for articles or poetry that are well written, creative, compelling and fresh, trying not to use the same author more than twice in the same year.

There is not a particular 'special' format for the Showcase. It is more or less a link to your article as posted.
Flashing lights would be nice huh?
