"No man is an island, Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main."
~John Donne
A few recurrent issues have arisen during the recent discussions on the direction Faithwriters can take regarding eBook publishing. Two of the more important are how to promote an eBook and how to maintain quality in order to build a favorable reputation. These can indeed be cornerstones or stumbling blocks, depending on how they're handled.
Actually, the answer is simple: Teamwork.
One of the tenets of our faith is to all work together for the common good. This principle could be the difference between success or failure. In today's society it has become much too common for people to sit back and either expect things to "just happen" or let someone else handle things.
I'm not sure Jesus would approve.
We need to look at this project the same way as we would a church outreach, with everyone chipping in and sharing in its success. We should not be as concerned with selling MY book as selling OUR books. Everyone can do something, no matter how small, to promote the common good. In this way, we can all share in the project's success.
Now, Faithwriters has a wonderful system in place to help maintain quality - the posting/comment section. Writers, especially new ones, should feel comfortable submitting portions of their books and having others give helpful comments. The idea is NOT to write like Dickens, but at least write to the best of their ability. Sometimes this only takes a little tweaking and encouragement.
Y'see, the mechanics of this project are easy. Andrew and I can build a functional eBook store and help everyone with the details of publishing an eBook. But these things are only physical - for this project to succeed, the participation of the members will make our project spiritually alive.
This is probably a pretty weak motivational letter - I'm very tired. But think about it, okay?
