LOL ... just seeing this now. Yes, I think we're probably the only site with a "test your avatar" thread. :D

We did it because people were getting frustrated when they couldn't get their pictures right, and this made an easy way for them to check that it was all working fine before they started using it in more public posts (and gave them an opportunity to ask for help if it wasn't--which happens quite often). It's really for new members more than anyone else, though. Old members already have their avatar showing next to their previous posts, so there's no real need for them to test it here. It's already changed on all their old posts.

No harm if they want to check here, though.
