Get Ready Fiction Writers.....

Post by Deb Porter »

The 2011 Page Turner contest is coming, and this year its focused on Fiction.

So if you're a Platinum member, or going to be a Platinum member, get busy writing (or polishing) that novel you've been working on.

Keep an eye out for the 2011 Page Turner details sometime after January 1.

I have a finished novel that I am thinking about entering. I need to review the guidelines first. I'll be watching for the go ahead. Thanks.

I actually have a New Year's goal of going through my Nano project, revising and strengthening it to enter this year.

I can do it....

I think...

I'm running a little late getting the information up, but I'll be sending it through to Scott in the next day or so. Keep watch!

I also have a novel I'm working on finishing in time to enter this years page turner. I've never entered before and am wondering about the competition. Are there a lot of entries in the fiction page turner as opposed to the non fiction page turner?

Hi Nicholle. We tend to get more entries on the fiction year than we do for the non-fiction year, but not enormously so.

Don't let that put you off though. I'll post a running total as new entries are submitted. It tends to be very slow for about seven months, then WHAM! We get a flood in the last two months.

I'm REALLY excited about the Page Turner this year. (LOL ... but I am every year, to be honest!)

I love the Page Turner, too! And it has nothing to do with the fact that I won in 2009 (well, maybe a little haha).

Seriously, what an awesome opportunity for Platinum members. This contest alone makes membership worth the cost. Other contests cost anywhere from $10-$50 to enter and don't have the awesome prize package that comes with winning the PT. I've paid for plenty of writing contests for organizations where I pay an annual fee, which I don't regret, but this one is included at no additional charge. It's awesome!

Since I won two years ago, I don't feel called to enter again, but I can't wait to see who takes the prize this time around.

Good luck!

Thanks Deb and WriteTrack!!! Do we have to be present at the conference in order to win? I am a fairly new member and haven't been to the FW Conference yet. The timing didn't work out well for me this past year. I am hoping to make it this year, but just not sure.

Quick Q for anyone in the PT know :)

I'm chomping at the bit to put my novel into the contest but I do have a little clarification question.

In the rules/tidbits/explanations part on the contest page it says something like:

"...outside assistance for editing is permitted and encouraged..."

Does that mean just critique groups back and forth or a paid edit or what? What's acceptable?

I was considering Genesis, but really don't think I'll be ready in time for that, and would love to enter PageTurner but don't want to solicit the wrong kind of help and disqualify myself.

Thanks muchly.

A wee bit nervous at the stiff competition already forming. :sofa

Hi Nichole.

This year we are giving free conference registration to the three winners, but that doesn't mean you have to attend. We would love the winners to be there so we can present their plaques to them in a public arena, but if the winner can't make it, the plaque will be sent out by post later.

If you haven't already had a read through the terms and conditions, that will help explain things.

Any questions, drop me a line.

Either or both. No problem at all. :D

The Page Turner isn't like the Challenge where no outside assistance is permitted. With the Page Turner, we encourage it because that is how you should present your manuscript to a publisher. It should be seen in its best light. So if you want to get someone to edit the first chapter for you, and even your synopsis, that's great. If you are happy to work with a critique group, that's great too.

Exciting, huh?

Lynn, again, don't worry too much if you go a little over if needed with the synopsis. I'm not going to be counting. It's just to make sure we don't get a chapter-length synopsis.

I'm very flexible when it comes to the Page Turner.

Thinking of entering my NaNo novel... couple of question. If I have a half-page prologue, can I submit both that and the first chapter?

Also, am I allowed to submit the story to the contest and then send it to an agent before waiting for the results of the contest?

Thanks!
