Let's party and celebrate all these wonderful winners and their stories. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the time to read a few. (I have to "borrow" computers so my time is somewhat limited.) Again, congrats one and all.
(a thousand more times)...this is my first EC (barely made it). My hands are shaking while I type. What a goof. I didn't think it would mean that much. Thank you judges. I had a couple mistakes this week so didn't think my story stood a chance. Thanks again.

You know when you have one of those stories and you think it's just about as good as it's ever going to get? That was this week's Descartes and the Dinosaur. Many thanks to the judges and to those kind commentators who showered me with gold boxes even when there wasn't any hinting.
Serving as a missionary, the whole issue of developmental aid is very much a hot potato for me and I was careful in my story not to give any easy answers. We're called by God to transform individuals and communities and it's all too easy to opt for the quick fix. Not surprisingly such solutions rarely last. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then I guess you need to click on the link to the story. Read, think, pray, act!
By the way, an encouragement to those who feel that they will never quite get there in terms of the Weekly Challenge. I joined FaithWriters back in 2006 and yet this is the first time that I have managed to place number one overall. I've come first in Masters before but pipped to the post by someone in Advanced. It's therefore the first time that I have been in the running for Best of the Best. I thank God for FW and for the opportunity to learn to excel. Little by little I'm also getting there.

Well I certainly wasn't expecting that! I'm just putting this post on for those of you who read my "Think before you leap". I've had quite a few comments along the lines of, "Wow, you're really brave" "You must be getting too old for it". Just so you know, I haven't actually ever done the things mentioned in my story. My parents would kill me. I wrote it from research and a good chunk of imagination. But thanks anyway.

Special congrats to Gregory! Doesn't get any better than the top, but I really appreciate your spirit.
Aw, thanks Rachel, I was totally surprised! This is not one I expected to place.
