I wonder if this is a problem for others who haven't made the committment. I wonder, if you offered memberships on a monthly basis, with option to cancel at any time, if you would see an increase in members. |
This is a good idea. With this economy, one place my kids used to go now charges a monthly fee.
Although, part of the reason I joined FW was because it was free. I wouldn't have taken a chance on some site I came across online it if it had involved $! So [if you opt to charge everyone for other services] I think a free trial period would be very important if you wanted the site to continue to grow and expand. [Some] people have to get 'hooked' before they'd be willing to pay? (I even refrain from commenting on one site I visit regularly because they require so much information just to 'join'--for free.)
I love the idea of other volunteers taking on more of the work. Is there a [vocational?] school or Eagle Scout(s) or some other older kids who are required to do service projects near Scott who might take on some of the maintenance, re-design (and eventually enhancements) of the FW pages? That happened in a class I took years ago. My class created a site for a non-profit & a school class(es) took over maintaining/enhancing it, at least that was the plan. Is FW an official non-profit (though there's work involved with becoming one)?
Are there unemployed members who have time and would truly love to be able to point to a real, live website that they'd worked on (& which might help them get a[nother] paying job)? Some way, somehow, free help may be available to FW!? & while that may not increase cash flow, it would give Scott & Deb more 'free' time--for other paying work...?
{& fyi, I will also admit that the push for money (from some member comments on the boards; & not by Deb/Scott), was one of the reasons I scaled way back on my time here.}
I see that one of my & others' old ideas has been implemented? A fee for Challenge scores/critique. I'm sure there's some work involved with that, but hopefully it's been helpful--financially and for the writers as well!
Best wishes to all. _________________ If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalm 139:9-10 (NIV) |

| Very new here and not sure what I should do. Have you seen any improvement in the finances of the site since your posting? Will be praying. |

I"m so glad you shared this with us, Deb. That's what friends are for, right?
I like the idea of a trial time for new members ( a free month sounds fair), then they could decide if they want to pay or not.
As a jeweler, I see many submissions to the General Admission each day...so many that dozens don't get read or receive comments. I'm thankful there is a place to post Christian writing, but I hope FW isn't just a free place to store their work online. Something always means more if it costs you something.
Deb, Scott, Lynda (and others who make FW special) THANK YOU for all you do. This place has given me the confidence to stretch and grow and learn. It has brought me together with oodles of Christian friends who understand me. Don't give up. We love you and need you.
Dear Lord, we ask for wisdom. Show Deb and Scott the best way to deal with this problem. Help them to be fair and loving. Give Deb strength and health. In Jesus' Name, Amen _________________ Vonnie

I thank Yvonne for directing me here, it's been too long since I've been on the boards.
When writers ask me where to go to get started, my answer is always FaithWriters and I always strongly encourage the 500 membership if possible. I think of FW as a launchpad and honestly, I believe being active here took a couple years off the time I would have worked and waited to publish.
It was through the boards Lori Wagner approached me and asked if she could use my free reprint story in her book. It was here I met Jan Ross and connected to JournEZine and Women of Passions. I consider many of the members here my mentors. It remains my go to place.
We are an one income family. I'm writing full time but just getting started and doing so more as a response to God than a steady financial source (right now). I think I've been a member of FW 500 for a couple years. Our budget needed shrinking as well and I cut out our newspaper delivery. For those that know me, I'm a current events junkie. I believe in FW that much that I'd rather have this membership.
We all come from different situations and backgrounds and that's part of what makes this a fantastic place. I've put the 500 call on my own blog several times. I have no regrets. If this is something you've been wondering about, I encourage you to give it a shot.
Deb, Scott, Lynda and moderators---you've had my prayers, and you will continue to. I truly pray abundant provision and blessings into your personal lives and ministry, including here. _________________ JULIE ARDUINI: THE SURRENDERED SCRIBE

Tough situation about which I will pray.
Faithwriters arrived in my life at a moment when I desperately needed an outlet. I have grown in my craft and been blessed by the friendships made with people, most of whom I have never even met.
It's worth the money and I trust that God will raise up more people who will contribute to a very worthy ministry. _________________ Lynda
