Boooy Howdy... half way through Ch16 of 21, but I do have half of Ch19 finished already... I am getting there. But talk about brain strain. :roll:

I keep telling myself I'm finishing my first novel before starting on the second, but since the Main character is based off of a friend of mine, I need to make sure he likes where I'm taking the "inspired" character.

I'm half-way through my synopsis. Had to write the ending to find out where my MC's were headed and how they got there. LOL

Win or not, I'm excited to be entering this year. I WILL have it done in time. :shock:

I'm working on mine, too. I debated as to whether or not to give it a go, but finally decided I would.

The "polishing" of my first chapter is going fairly well, but I'm having a bit more trouble with the synopsis.

Deb, maybe you could post (in all your "spare time" :mrgreen:

) a bit about what you look for in a synopsis?

Things I'm wondering are:
--How long you like it to be
--Do you like it written (as I've read in articles on synopsis-writing) in third person, present tense?
--Anything you like to see specifically included and/or excluded?
etc...

Any extra info would be greatly appreciated!

Shelley - unless they've changed the rules, the synopsis can't be more than 500 words. That's all I can help you with

Oh dear! I'm in trouble, how do I compact a 70,000 word novel synopsis into 500 words? AAAARGH!

I agree with Karlene, LOL!

Most of the sites I looked at mentioned 1-3 pages. I hadn't rechecked the rules for the page turner yet (but would have before sending it in.)

All of which brings up another question. I've been writing my synopsis as I'd seen in examples...basically a summary of the main plot line of the entire book, including "giving away" the ending. But if it's to be that much shorter should it be more in the style of back cover or dust jacket copy...i.e. more of a "teaser"?

I'm fine with however Deb wants it...I'm just glad I checked! :mrgreen:

And I can certainly understand Deb not wanting huge long synopses since she's going to have so much to read / judge as it is!

I'll adapt...isn't that what writers do? :wink:

I was wondering the same things, then googled "synopsis". What Shelley is explaining is what I found too. I can adapt too if need be, I'll need really really large, very sharp scissors though. :mrgreen:
