Just sticking my nosey head in to wish all the contestants the very, very best in the Page Turner Writing Contest.
For those who have entered, you have done well. It's no mean feat to write a first chapter and a synopsis. I'm dying to know who the winner will be, and will be praying that God's name will be glorified in the work of both the winning entry and all the others who do move ahead and become published, however long that might take.
I know several entrants have 'only' written the first paragraph, ie they've not got the whole book done yet - don't let a 'whole book' overwhelm you. Keep writing, one chapter at a time, just as you've written this first chapter.
Don't stop now, waiting for the results. Plod on, complete the work, and whether or not you win, send it somewhere for publication.
Congratulations, and may God's richest blessings be on you all.

Those are some wise words. The tendency might be to wait to see what happens next, but the best thing is to keep writing!

Christine,
Your precious response to the contestants nearly made me cry. What a lovely encouragement! I'm wondering if you too have entered?
Those are my exact sentiments. DON'T STOP NOW!
You're right. A book is only one chapter after the other until the story is told.
Winning isn't the point. Having made a really good start is. (Boy, Deb has her ways of pushing us to our destinations, doesn't she? Contest indeed! )
Anyway, I add my prayers and cheers to fellow novice novel writers.
Linda

Absolutely! By entering the Page Turner Challenge, you have separated youselves from the majority who sit around saying, "I'm gonna write a book someday." It's not enough just to have a dream - at some point that dream MUST be translated into action. You have taken this important first step.

No, I didn't, for a variety of reasons. First, I had to cancel my FW500 membership (which I was loath to do, but there was ultimately little choice); second, I've experienced the joys of getting a book published by mainstream media - since I've done it once I know I can do it again so thought I should leave this sparkling opportunity to a genuine novice; and third, I've been so busy that I doubt I could ever have completed an entry to my own personal standard.
Which isn't to say that I've spent a lot of time thinking I could scrape up the required FW500 money over the past few weeks.
Am just trying to follow God's leading through this stage of my life.

Seeing as we are ALL gonna win this thing, and there is a chunk of change for the winner to go towards the publishing cost, perhaps we should huddle now to figure out which publishing company can do the prettiest (for the girlz) most dynamic (for the boyz) job.....
I read on another thread that Lulu was good, but you know, for us, we need FANTASTIC

I like the way you think, but I don't think "pretty" will fit with my story lol

Hmm, looks like everyone is writing books with dead bodies or psycho characters.... is there any other kind of page turner?
Kisses and Valentine cards don't make me turn pages either

No dead bodies in mine either. I've got a ballerina and a horse. It's pretty girly.

Christine-thanks a bunch for all the encouragement. That has been a real boost to me this morning!
Teri-a ballerina and a horse sounds cute.
Shari-that dead body thing....
lol. Mine is pretty simple. Each character has a really 'dark' secret, there are two 'love triangles', classic betrayal, a lost soul wandering around looking for purpose and true meaning and some really awesome super-powers. Lotsa nice short plots.

Gosh; all I have is a farmer who wants nothing more in life than to just work his land and be left alone, but whose grandmother and aunt are priestesses from another planet.

oooh hooo hooo hooo.... shiver...
mine is about terrorists chasing a confused American Israeli Arab who falls in love with a Mossad agent who is trying to find the information her late double agent husband might have given her which could bring Israel to the brink of The endtime war which, of course, would fulfill endtime prophesy, and that would........but only if she can be found after having been kidnapped........but that presupposes that an Arab undercover agent is able to find a way for them to escape because he.......oh dear, have I given too much away?????
