Okay, so I'm running into problems with my synopsis. I have no idea why it is so hard, but it is.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a sample synopsis to read, so I can see what they are like. A website or something.

I need help.

To enter or not to enter-- That is the question. Whether tis nobler to share my work or sit on it for a few more months, for a few more years.

I finished tweaking and fixing my synopsis, wrote a prologue and Chapter 1 is edited. But the question is, is it good enough to enter now or should I wait a few more weeks or months.

Also I don't have a title yet. I want something that says "Pick me up, read me. I am a great book and not your typical romance novel." But something that jumps off the shelf and into the hands of the hopeless romantic who can't get enough of a good love story.

What would you call a romance about Christian Cooking school students?

Any suggestions would be welcome as I have "NOTHING". Right now it is titled "Tasha and Rick". *yawn* BORING.

You'll still have 12 months to tinker with it after the winner is announced in November. So don't put it off. :D It will be another year before the fiction Page Turner comes around again.

As for the title, keep thinking. You still have until the end of June.

Just work through all the cooking type words and see if you can fit a love angle into it.

Can the synopsis be included at the end of the chapter, or does it need to be typed in the given area. Can that area be filled with "see uploaded file for detailed synopsis"?

If it is attached, can an image or picture (simple Word Drawing) be added?

I'm getting close. In the editing phase now. Debating on a round of readers to assist, or professional services, or both.

One other question: Can we post information about this entry in other places here at FW? Critique Circle doesn't seem too great an idea b/c of how many will see it. How about a film-style logline (2 lines) and synopsis (brief paragraph) on our profile here?

Double Huh? Janice, where did that come from?

The contest is open to all 500 members until 30th June. We have no limit on entries.

Any genre at all. So go for it.

For all the information, log in to your FaithWriters account and click on the 500 member area. Toward the bottom of the 500 member page there is a box about the Page Turner contest. Click on that, and you'll be taken to all the information.

With the Challenge, it isn't mandatory (meaning you won't be disqualified if you don't) but it is definitely appreciated. If your entry places in the EC, it sure helps having all the Scripture references and version at the bottom of the entry so that I don't have to go chasing and searching.

Grr, I can't seem to stick with one idea. I have one, but the synopsis I wrote for it two pages. Is that two long? :?

Two pages is propably a tad on the lengthy side for the synopsis. See if you can trim it down just a little.

Is a synopsis written kinda like a book review? Only of course the book hasn't been written yet, but same idea?

When you submit a synopsis to an editor, they usually want a full-blown account of your story - all the major plot points, character quirks and traits (as long as they're important to the storyline), character development and growth, the climax of the story, and even the ending. Editors do not like surprises! They don't like teasers. They're on a need-to-know basis and they need to know everything!

For this contest, however, the synopsis can be condensed to about 1 page. Think more of a back cover blurb. Something that reveals the major storyline but doesn't necessarily give anything away. Whet the judges appetite as well as let them know that you, as the author, actually know where the story is going and aren't just submitting a random piece of writing that you have no intention of following through on.

Lynda, thank you for your description here. It is very helpful. I like the idea of a back cover blurb.

Question: Back cover blurbs often read almost like advertisements. Do you think it is a good idea or a bad idea in the synopsis to write things like "Readers will love....." or "Thrill to..."?

Personally, I wouldn't add anything about the reader. I would stick to the basics of the story itself. If you'd like, and if it's not against the rules, I can email you the synopsis I submitted for the Page Turner Contest. :?: :?:

Maybe Deb will pop in and let me know if that's ok. If not, I can email her. Don't want to be breaking any rules, but I don't mind sharing.
