LOL ... no, you weren't alone.
But you were the one that made me think, "Hmmm ... if Shari thought that, I wonder how many others may have thought the same thing?"
I'll expect a flood of entries now.
Love, Deb

I'm done with the exception of one sentence. It's my favorite individual sentence in the entire chapter and I just realized that it makes no sense at all and must be changed or deleted. I can't figure out how to change it. It's important for something else; so I can't delete it without fixing it into other parts. Ugh. I've read about this; having that one piece you love so much and having to possess the discipline to rip it out, because the work isn't about you as a writer. This lesson is tough! One sentence to go and I'll send it in. May take until 6/30, but one sentence!
“Get to work. Your work is to keep cranking the flywheel that turns the gears that spin the belt in the engine of belief that keeps you and your desk in midair.” ~Dillard.

Yes, Lynda is right. This year is fiction.
Next year will be non-fiction, but even so, the Page Turner contest probably won't work terribly well with individual devotions/stories. That's because the first chapter has to be something that really grabs the reader and makes them want to keep reading. So if each chapter was a stand-alone story or devotion, that may be a bit harder to judge.
But this year is definitely fiction.

One other question: how long should the chapter be? Or roughly how many words?
I just want to be sure when I get the chapter written it's not too long/too short.

Go for it Dara.
As for length, it doesn't really matter. Just make sure that you set up a good, page-turning first chapter.

Hey Dara,
Don't be discouraged. I'm in the same boat. I've had the idea for a while, but not sure if I should "GO FOR IT." Yesterday, I had a slow day at my gift store, so I dove right in and my oldest daughter read it and thought I had a really good start.
Guess I just might get it done. We've still got almost two weeks.
I THINK I CAN!

Thanks! I think I can too I just have to actually stop writing a summary for the chapter and just write the chapter itself already.

I am the official cheering section (because I am annoyingly peppy AND because I'm not entering this year because my WIP is non-fiction). So, here I am to do my job.
