This is IT--The Page Turner Writing Contest!

Post by Deb Porter »

Hi Gang.

For all those who have been waiting patiently for the 1st January so that the "big announcement" could be revealed, it is already up and waiting for you to discover.

If you are a 500 member, log into your FaithWriters' account and then go to the 500 member area. Once there, scroll down to the bottom of that page and you will find a new button to take you to all the information about the brand new, and exciting, contest for 500 members only.

Because it's for 500 members only, I can't give a direct link, although I think everyone would need to log in before they could access it.

This will be an annual contest, and will alternate between fiction and non-fiction each year.

Love, Deb

This is awesome -- probably what I need to get my act together and work on that novel I've been putting off for ever so long!

Thanks for such a wonderful opportunity! Even if we don't win, we will have gained the advantage of having that little "push" to get started and stop procrastinating. Great way to start a new year -- new focus and new goals!

Blessings ...
Because they haven't heard ...

I found it about an hour before you announced it. Had no idea I was looking at the big surprise! LOL!

Hmmm, if I'm writing a 10,000 word novella that is going inside a Peculiar People book would the first chapter qualify?

Will this be a one-time contest, or a yearly thing?

Typically a chapter is somewhere around one or two thousand, I think? The site said:
Although there won't be a set word count, it should be kept in mind that entries will comprise of the first chapter only (and a brief synopsis). So although your finished novel may end up being the size of Gone with the Wind, don't try and cram it all into the opening chapter.

From what I understand, it will be an annual thing, alternating between fiction and nonfiction. 2007 is fiction, so the contest in 2008 will be nonfiction. I'll be holding out for the nonfiction one. :)

I had a little synopsis last spring, but some Kleenex and an over-the-counter decongestant took care of it ...

Al is right. It's an annual contest for 500 members--and we really are hoping that it will give that little extra push to get working on that book. To be fair to everyone, we are having fiction this year, and non-fiction next year--and it will alternate each year from then on.

Although it doesn't actually take the step of publishing your book, it provides a lot to help you in the pre-publishing stage, and post publishing stage--as well as a very nice cash prize to go toward publishing, or marketing your book. Then, you have the free promotion all over FaithWriters for 12 months, plus the recognition of being the Page Turner winner. That's a pretty big deal for book promotion.

So go for it gang!

Oh, and if you love to read, and are not planning to enter the Page Turner contest for 2007, could you let me know? We need enthusiastic readers to help us find our top contenders.

Awesome! I have something started, but have been meaning to re-start it. Maybe this is the push I need.

Is this announcement going to be sent via email to all the FW500 members? There must be an awful lot of them who don't come on the boards????
