know the enemy (Satan and Demons)

Postby patk2032 » Tue Mar 12, 2013 7:38 pm

I think we should all learn more about our christian enemies. If anyone cares to chat with me about possessions or anything about Satan or demons I am here to Help if I can.
1 Peter 5:8

Well, we could always start with a handy-dandy list to put in our shirt pocket or purse:

So, what is Satan up to these days?
“the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world” (Revelation 12:9).
“the whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19).
“the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
“the ruler of this world” (John 12:31).
“him who had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14).
“the devil has sinned from the beginning” (1 John 3:8).
“he was a murderer from the beginning” (John 8:44).
“there is no truth in him ... he is liar and the father of it” (John 8:44).
“the accuser of our brethren (believers)” (Revelation 12:10).
“the ruler of the demons” (Matthew 12:24).
“the spiritual forces of wickedness” (Ephesians 6:12).
“the world forces of this (spiritual) darkness” (Ephesians 6:12).
“Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.
Therefore it is no great thing if his (false) ministers also
transform themselves into ministers of righteousness” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15).
“the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works
in the sons of disobedience (and controls them)” (Ephesians 2:2).
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks
about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

Hi Pat. I don't believe Christians can be "possessed" by demons, do you?

Yes it is possible for a christian to be possessed, if they have stepped away from their faith and allow the demon to enter them. I can not find this in the bible at this time. But I do know that once you are saved you are always a christian. I know I was possessed by more than one demon for several months. I was a born again christian but I had fell into self pity and resented God for 6 years. If you are curious about more read my book 6 years 6 months and 6 days of darkness. I will search for some verses to back up my thoughts.

My question is, how can a demon possess someone who has the Holy Spirit within them?

1 John 4:4
"But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world."
"Reality doesn't care if you believe in it."

Pat, I have known a few believers who have been privy to others who say this demon possession thing is quite real, although I have never knowingly seen it (although there are certain individuals I wonder about). Do you care to share what exactly happened when you were possessed?

I don't believe that a Christian can be possessed because the Holy Spirit cannot live in the same body as a demon.

I do believe that Satan can and will send his demons in aggressive assault against Christians. That's what he does.

I'm interested to know how you got free, Pat. Someone very close to me is struggling.
Thanks.

I know that through that period of my life I was a totally different person. I can only say I was saved before that and that whether I was possessed or oppressed my actions were not my actions. I can not find anything in the Bible to show but I will keep looking. Unless you have been through this you would never be able to comprehend just how bad it was. I did explain as much as possible in my book.

I'll look for your book. I'm sure I was never "possessed" (others may disagree) but years ago when I was going through a very dark time, I read a book entitled "The Battlefield of the Mind," it was very helpful.

I've had my fair share of demonic experiences. I have been attacked multiple times, including being choked out. It all started when I first started praying and seeking the face of God. In fact, when I would pray alone in my room at night I would hear tapping or noises and felt a great amount of fear and the enemy won for a short time. I wouldn't pray at night because of this.

Almost four years later, my spirit has grown tremendously. I no longer fear demons what-so-ever. Although they still attack, I have learned how to over come them through Christ. Remember Paul’s story about the possessed girl following him? Yelling in the streets "They are of the most high God!" For three days she ranted until Paul turned in "annoyance" and castes the demon out of her. Key word, annoyance. He was not afraid. The spirit is greater and do not under estimate it! I believe, if we continue to nurture and strengthen the Holy Spirit with in us, no demonic force can touch us. Unless of course, God is sending them to "strengthen out spiritual combat". In my case, although I was scared, God had made me so much stronger and opened my eyes to the spiritual world.

I have a very different view on possession. I don't believe it is anything like the movie "the exorcist" or "paranormal activity". I think (from experience) it is more of being "trapped in ones mind". Yes, the devil is (at that point) able to influence you more so and can block your senses and alter ones actions; however, God is always there and can over rule anything. Keep praying my brothers and sisters and correct me if I am wrong.

I know I was under a demonic assault that is true beyond a doubt. But I know It felt worse than any movie has shown a possession. as I said in my book I felt as if my soul was being burned in my body. I
was always angry and ready to harm anyone near me always watchful of the unseen presence following me. I could feel demons and angels near. I could even feel demons on my back. They would push me and claw at me. it is difficult to explain the feeling and pain I would feel but it was real.
