Hi - I am utterly amazed that I have already sent off this weeks Challenge. I even have another one going, fiction, that I may post as an article. Even my husband was impressed! I probably need someone to help with my editing. That is my weakest area. I'm looking at Jan's basics, etc. - but is there a good reference book you could recommend. Thanks.
I don't know of a book, but I am sure some others might.
Just wanted to say kudos to you for getting your Challenge entry in, and tell you it is the best thing for your writing. I joined two years ago and didn't know much about writing, except that I wanted to be one more than anything, and so I am. With the help of these fine people here at Faithwriters I actually got some things published!
So glad you're here!

Yay!!! Good for you!
I think Jan mentioned The Elements of Style. It's definitely worth getting. I have the illustrated version and it's fascinating in a quirky way.
For something more recent, I would recommend English Grammar for Dummies. The title is kind of offensive, but I find the Dummies books are well planned, easy to understand, and fun. It's a book that you can read from cover to cover, or just use as a reference book.

And for no cost at all there are Jan's Writing basics; which I see you have already requested. Jan will get round to that shortly.
If you are serious about wanting to improve, join a buddy group and really open up to Red Ink. Let everyone know that you want constructive critisicm and keep chasing it. There are masters of the craft here and their personal help will be invaluable. And don't be afraid to message them and ask for clarity. Short testimony.
Jan once commented on my article that I needed more 'structure', I messaged and asked what she meant. Through two or three emails she gave me a wonderful lesson on structure and my writing leaped forward almost over night. Most, if not all, writers here are very approachable.
May we all get eyes to see and ears to hear,
A Revelation of His Word, crystal clear.
Admitting our need to be drawn in,
Less of self, more of Him.
My prayer for us all.
God bless us with the Revelation of His Word, Graham
I just saw this and was going to recommend Elements of Style. It's a great go to book. I also will often use this website when I'm doing editing and want a quick easy reference. I like it because it has quizzes at the end of each section.
Congratulations on doing more writing. That is one of the many gifts FW has given me, I've been dong more writing than I ever had done before. I think for the first 18 months or so I entered the challenge every time, even when I was in the hospital. I've been so blessed and learned so much. I never would have gotten editing jobs if not for FW and the connections I've made here.
