Actually, things went quite well for him. They left about 16 hours later than originally planned. He had forgotten that the conference was in the Central time zone, so they were only about an hour late rather than two which was a pleasant surprise. They didn't have any issues with traveling. He had a marvelous week and an awesome experience.
He is presently pursuing his Masters at Duke's School of Divinity. He marveled at the organization of Urbana and how well everything was planned. This will come in quite handy when he becomes an ordained UM minister.
I am humbled when my kids teach me a lesson. I think it shows me that I've done a good job with them when they remind me to have faith. When Q first mentioned Urbana, my immediate response was "How will you afford it?"
His answer humbled me. "It's not my money, it belongs to God and if he tells me I should do this then I have to listen to him, knowing that he will make it possible."
We had similar discussions when he told me he was going to Duke. The cost!(Not to mention the 13 hour road trip that separates me from him.) My youngest went on Mission of Peace to Nicaragua last year. When she first mentioned it, I never thought we could come up with the $4,000 in 6 months. She had all the money raised in just over 4. When she wanted to go to a particular college, I again worried about the money. Can't you go to a state school? But I called financial aid and they offered her more money that was very close to the total amount she needed. When she replied see God took care of it, again I was humbled.
I tend to be a worrier, but every time God answers in ways I would never imagine.
