Noonday Devotion by Keith

Devotion 1

Joshua 21

Jos 21:43 And so GOD gave Israel the entire land that he had solemnly vowed to give to their ancestors. They took possession of it and made themselves at home in it.

Jos 21:44 And GOD gave them rest on all sides, as he had also solemnly vowed to their ancestors. Not a single one of their enemies was able to stand up to them--GOD handed over all their enemies to them.

Jos 21:45 Not one word failed from all the good words GOD spoke to the house of Israel. Everything came out right.

The Children of Israel had taken forty years to reach the promised land, they had been through times where they must of thought that the promises that God made to their forefathers would not come through.

We sometimes wonder the same thing and, say when God when. But we serve a faithful God, who when he says that he will do something, he does it. Be reassured my friend, he is faithful.

God works on his timescales and not ours and His timescales are perfect. When HE gives us something, it will always be at the right time.. not at our time

Note what verse 45 says.. every word that God spake.. every promise He ever made to the children of Israel, came true. In spite of the disobedience and unfaithfulness of the Israelites, God remained true and Faithful. Despite our unfaithfulness and disobedience, God remains faithful to us.. amen

Look at verse 44, not one of their enemies were able to stand up to them, it is the same for us. If we live in the power of the Spirit, not one of our enemies can stand, because we go against them in the power of the Lord. Just like David did with Goliath 1 Samuel 17

God bless you

Devotion 2

Daniel 3

Dan 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, "Your threat means nothing to us".

Dan 3:17 If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us from your roaring furnace and anything else you might cook up, O king.

Dan 3:18 But even if he doesn't, it wouldn't make a bit of difference, O king. We still wouldn't serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up."

Now here is an attitude I want to have? They didn't care if the king was going to put them in the fire, they had supreme confidence and total and utter trust that their God, was going to protect them.

They would not compromise their beliefs, their stand for God, and God rewarded them. When they came out of the furnace, they came out better than they went in. How often , when we are going through hard times, and we are in a furnace like situation, do we complain? But if you trust completely and have the same attitude as these three guys, then you will come out smelling sweeter and feeling stronger

Persecution and Hardship refines the believer and leaves us stronger and also we are able to do more things for God. Hebrews chapter 12

What a response this was, their dependence was upon God, what we see here is faith in it's purest form.

They couldn't see the salvation of God.. but they believed that they were under God's protection. See Hebrews 11:1 and 6

God bless you

Morning and Evening By CH Spurgeon

"He arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights." – I Kings 19:8
All the strength supplied to us by our gracious God is meant for service, not for wantonness or boasting. When the prophet Elijah found the cake baked on the coals, and the cruse of water placed at his head, as he lay under the juniper tree, he was no gentleman to be gratified with dainty fare that he might stretch himself at his ease; far otherwise, he was commissioned to go forty days and forty nights in the strength of it, journeying towards Horeb, the mount of God. When the Master invited the disciples to "Come and dine" with him, after the feast was concluded he said to Peter, "Feed my sheep"; further adding, "Follow me." Even thus it is with us; we eat the bread of heaven, that we may expend our strength in the Master’s service. We come to the passover, and eat of the paschal lamb with loins girt, and staff in hand, so as to start off at once when we have satisfied our hunger. Some Christians are for living on Christ, but are not so anxious to live for Christ. Earth should be a preparation for heaven; and heaven is the place where saints feast most and work most. They sit down at the table of our Lord, and they serve him day and night in his temple. They eat of heavenly food and render perfect service. Believer, in the strength you daily gain from Christ labour for him. Some of us have yet to learn much concerning the design of our Lord in giving us his grace. We are not to retain the precious grains of truth as the Egyptian mummy held the wheat for ages, without giving it an opportunity to grow: we must sow it and water it. Why does the Lord send down the rain upon the thirsty earth, and give the genial sunshine? Is it not that these may all help the fruits of the earth to yield food for man? Even so the Lord feeds and refreshes our souls that we may afterwards use our renewed strength in the promotion of his glory.

"Girt about the paps with a golden girdle." – Revelations 1:13
"One like unto the Son of Man" appeared to John in Patmos, and the beloved disciple marked that he wore a girdle of gold. A girdle, for Jesus never was ungirt while upon earth, but stood always ready for service, and now before the eternal throne he stays not is holy ministry, but as a priest is girt about with "the curious girdle of the ephod." Well it is for us that he has not ceased to fulfil his offices of love for us, since this is one of our choicest safeguards that he ever liveth to make intercession for us. Jesus is never an idler; his garments are never loose as though his offices were ended; he diligently carries on the cause of his people. A golden girdle, to manifest the superiority of his service, the royalty of his person, the dignity of his state, the glory of his reward. No longer does he cry out of the dust, but he pleads with authority, a King as well as a Priest. Safe enough is our cause in the hands of our enthroned Melchizedek.
Our Lord presents all his people with an example. We must never unbind our girdles. This is not the time for lying down at ease, it is the season of service and warfare. We need to bind the girdle of truth more and more tightly around our loins. It is a golden girdle, and so will be our richest ornament, and we greatly need it, for a heart that is not well braced up with the truth as it is in Jesus, and with the fidelity which is wrought of the Spirit, will be easily entangled with the things of this life, and tripped up by the snares of temptation. It is in vain that we possess the Scriptures unless we bind them around us like a girdle, surrounding our entire nature, keeping each part of our character in order, and giving compactness to our whole man. If in heaven Jesus unbinds not the girdle, much less may we upon earth. Stand, therefore, having your loins girt about with truth.
