Noonday Devotion by Keith

Devotion 1

John 16

13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

I love the picture painted here of the Holy Spirit.

Here we have four evidences of Living in the Power of the Holy Spirit

Don't you just love the words.. Spirit of Truth? What will the Spirit of Truth do, HE will guide you into all truth. This is one of the evidences, you are living in the Spirit. You will be attracted to truth, like a magnet. You will not be attracted to lies and deceit.

Another evidence of Living in the Spirit, is that you will not speak much about yourself. You will not seek your own ends or your own glory.

The Holy Spirit, is one with the Father and the Son and shares their divine attributes, but it tells not of itself, but of The Father and The Son. Likewise someone who is living in the Spirit, you will not hear them tell about themselves.

Another evidence of Living in the Spirit, is that we glorify the Lord in all we do. The Holy Spirit did not worry about it's own reputation, it is only concerned with Glorifying the Son

So believer, if we are living in the Spirit, we will always be :

Led into and speaking the truth

Not speaking about ourselves

You will not seek your own ends

Glorify Jesus in all we do

Are these things evident in your life and mine?

If they are, then you are living in the power of the HOLY SPIRIT?

Devotion 2

Psalm 94

12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law

Many Christians have known what it is to be chastened of the Lord.

Here the Psalmist says, that the man who is chastenest is blessed.. surely not!

Remember Job, Remember Paul.

They were cast down, suffered terrible loss and yet were blessed beyond measure. Job lost everything, but he was blessed. Paul suffered loss and was blessed.

It is in the times, of great chastening, that we are refined with fire to become the pure gold nuggets,God wants us to be. When the time of Chastening comes, it is time to welcome it and say.. this is a time of blessing and honour.

Because in times of chastening, what does God do?

He teaches you out of his Law.. amen

We can sit at the feet of wonderful teachers, but the best way to learn is from Jesus himself. To be taught out of his law.. his word.. by God himself.. now that is awesome

God will chasten us, because of some sin in our lives, but also because he wants us to teach us something.. amen

Believer.. welcome these times.. it proves that God is truly interested in you.. amen

God Bless you

Keith

"Mighty to save." – Isaiah 63:1

By the words "to save" we understand the whole of the great work of salvation, from the first holy desire onward to complete sanctification. The words are multum in parro: indeed, here is all mercy in one word. Christ is not only "mighty to save" those who repent, but he is able to make men repent. He will carry those to heaven who believe; but he is, moreover, mighty to give men new hearts and to work faith in them. He is mighty to make the man who hates holiness love it, and to constrain the despiser of his name to bend the knee before him. Nay, this is not all the meaning, for the divine power is equally seen in the after-work. The life of a believer is a series of miracles wrought by "the Mighty God." The bush burns, but is not consumed. He is mighty to keep his people holy after he has made them so, and to preserve them in his fear and love until he consummates their spiritual existence in heaven. Christ’s might doth not lie in making a believer and then leaving him to shift for himself; but he who begins the good work carries it on; he who imparts the first germ of life in the dead soul, prolongs the divine existence, and strengthens it until it bursts asunder every bond of sin, and the soul leaps from earth, perfected in glory. Believer, here is encouragement. Art thou praying for some beloved one? Oh, give not up thy prayers, for Christ is "mighty to save." You are powerless to reclaim the rebel, but your Lord is Almighty. Lay hold on that mighty arm, and rouse it to put forth its strength. Does your own case trouble you? Fear not, for his strength is sufficient for you. Whether to begin with others, or to carry on the work in you, Jesus is "mighty to save;" the best proof of which lies in the fact that he has saved you. What a thousand mercies that you have not found him mighty to destroy!

"Take up the cross, and follow me." - Mark 10:21

You have not the making of your own cross, although unbelief is a master carpenter at cross-making; neither are you permitted to choose your own cross, although self-will would fain be lord and master; but your cross is prepared and appointed for you by divine love, and you are cheerfully to accept it; you are to take up the cross as your chosen badge and burden, and not to stand cavilling at it. This night Jesus bids you submit your shoulder to his easy yoke. Do not kick at it in petulance, or trample on it in vain-glory, or fall under it in despair, or run away from it in fear, but take it up like a true follower of Jesus. Jesus was a cross-bearer; he leads the way in the path of sorrow. Surely you could not desire a better guide! And if he carried a cross, what nobler burden would you desire? The Via Crucis is the way of safety; fear not to tread its thorny paths.

Beloved, the cross is not made of feathers, or lined with velvet, it is heavy and galling to disobedient shoulders; but it is not an iron cross, though your fears have painted it with iron colours, it is a wooden cross, and a man can carry it, for the Man of sorrows tried the load. Take up your cross, and by the power of the Spirit of God you will soon be so in love with it, that like Moses, you would not exchange the reproach of Christ for all the treasures of Egypt. Remember that Jesus carried it, and it will smell sweetly; remember that it will soon be followed by the crown, and the thought of the coming weight of glory will greatly lighten the present heaviness of trouble. The Lord help you to bow your spirit in submission to the divine will ere you fall asleep this night, that waking with to-morrow’s sun, you may go forth to the day’s cross with the holy and submissive spirit which becomes a follower of the Crucified.
