When I consider

Postby Anniel » Wed Jan 21, 2009 8:57 am

I have recently been involved in a production of "While Shepherds watched" by Roger Jones. One of the songs that has lodged in my mind and keeps coming to my lips is based on Psalm 8:

"When I consider the works of your fingers,
the moon and the stars the Heavens so grand
Just what is man that you stay mindful of him?
Just lower than angels with glory is crowned"

David the Shepherd and psamist must have watched many a starry night.

This year is the International Year of Astronomy, so I have been trying to teach a group of adults with Learning Difficulties about the solar system, planets, moon, earth etc... I am learning a lot as I prepare and have been watching the sky on clear nights with renewed wonder.

Today I was reading Psalm 139 where the writer marvels at his Creation, particularly in his mother's womb. The words "Your works are wonderful, I know that full well" really touched me and I had to confess that I had not always thought of myself as the wonderful individual creation of God,
so I confessed this.

When we look at the moon and stars and feel that sense of wonder we need to remember that the same mind and power created us too. Amazing or what?

I hopw Jan picks this up as I was thinking about her coming Grandchild in this context too.
