I think I am confused on the comma before the word and. I need to review some more. Was this simple stuff thirty years ago in highschool? I believe my brain has lost a few brain cells. Thanks for the help.

It is far simpler to understand the principle.

If you say something before you get the point of the sentence, add a comma.

If you build a sentence "backwards," add a comma.

After Janet fed the horse, she went to school.

To get a good start on our road trip, we left at three in the morning.

Sorry, Ann....I would participate in both yours and Jan's forum, but I've been completely swamped with work, wedding planning, and other activities! Someday I will I dig through the old forum topics, though.

This is wonderful. I remember getting 'the cane' at school, for wrong parsing. I whack commas in everywhere now; just in case. Hows that?

Thank you for doing this. God has recently stirred up my deisre to write, but I struggle with basic grammar. I used to find grammar so boring, and unnecessary, but one key to being able to communicate clearly is having a solid understanding of basic grammar. Thanks again!
