Pray For Cookie

Postby deejay » Mon Sep 24, 2012 4:39 pm

My roommate Cookie has been in the hospital for the past week. Her doctor says she has growths on her thyroid glands, on top of her having brain cancer and a heart condition. As far as I know, she has no family--she's a widow whose only child, a son, also died of a heart problem; I don't know what kind or if it's the same one Cookie has.

My roomies C.J. and Diane have been calling her, but she either gives them attitude or doesn't answer at all. This morning before I left Diane said she was going to try one more time to contact Cookie, and if she didn't answer or gave more attitude, that would be it.

I don't know for sure where Cookie is with the Lord; she's 65, and until her hospitalization was occupied in playing in golf tournaments for money. Apparently she's okay financially.

Please pray for her recovery and salvation, especially if it turns out that "this is it".

Cookie came home from the hospital unexpectedly last week, but she went back yesterday. I know she had surgery in her lower abdomen, don't know what they did. She went in because they found nodes on her thyroid glands; this time she's continuing to vomit blood. There's a young couple whom she has "adopted" who have been taking her to and from the hospital. She had a son, but he died years ago; Cookie is a widow. As far as I know, her son was all she had. Now she's starting to talk about how she wants to go see her dead son again. I don't know what Cookie's spiritual status is, so really pray for her healing and salvation. This really bothers us; we've been in this house nearly two years, and if something happens to Cookie, it will be the first time we've lost a roomie to death. Others either were asked to leave because of addictions, etc., or left because of work issues.

Lord, please bring physical, spiritual, mental and emotional healing to Cookie. She is your child and needs Your touch. Bless these roomates and the young couple. Hear our prayers, Oh Lord. We thank You and praise you that we know You care and You are with all those who are involved.

This morning when I spoke to Cookie, she said she was feeling kind of "iffy"--you know, not good, but not bad, either--but that she goes back into the hospital on the 30th. Continue keeping her in prayer.

This morning as I was eating breakfast, I heard Cookie crying out, moaning and groaning. She is still vomiting blood, I've seen traces in the sink of the front bathroom. Her cries upset me greatly, yet there's nothing I can do but pray. Frankly, if she gets any worse, I hope she goes into a hospice--I do not want to come home to find an ambulance or a coroner's car out front. Or have to walk into the house and find everyone else crying. I've heard her talk about a visiting nurse, but since I'm here at the library most of the time when I'm not at church, I've never seen one come in. But I suppose if she has one, she or he must be coming while I'm out.

Please keep Cookie in prayer. I did hear her talk about church, so perhaps she is saved.

Sounds like they didn't so something right in her surgery. Praying she sees a doctor to see what might be wrong. Praying for salvation as well, if she isn't saved.

When she went in on the 30th, CJ and Diane went with her, along with a lady from next door that is Cookie's friend. When they had her in admitting, they were asking her the usual questions about her medical history. She mentioned her heart condition, but strangely enough not her brain cancer/tumor. One would think that would be the first thing she would mention. I checked into brain tumors and cancer; I don't know how long she's had her brain issue, but with treatment, the five year survival rate is only 10%; it goes without saying without treatment, survival is zero. Something's not right. When a brain tumor is diagnosed, the first thing they do is either operate to remove as much as possible, or make a small incision, drill a small hole in the skull, and put a biopsy needle in to get a sample. Cookie's hair is close-cropped; if she'd had a brain tumor, there would be scars from an operation or biopsy, but there are none. Something's up.

I was talking to my roomie Diane last night; she said when they took her in on the 30th, nobody mentioned the brain tumor. I've been told that some tumors can affect the memory, so who knows? Diane said she had some relatives with cancer and they passed away sooner than the doctor predicted. She says Cookie has had this brain tumor for three years now. She's basically given up; I'm back to worrying about her buying it at home, and I wish she would go into a hospice. I don't like being on tenterhooks.

Re: Pray For Cookie--UPDATE

Postby deejay » Sat Nov 10, 2012 6:42 pm

Last night, as I was helping Cookie get to the fridge for one of her nutritional drinks--I haven't seen her eat solids for a long time--she told me, with a catch in her voice, that her doctors and the nurse say that basically there's nothing else for her. She said she'd had a good life and raised one of the best sons ever, and felt lucky to have friends who love her.

In other words, Cookie is dying.

Please pray that when the end comes, she is prepared to meet her God, and for peace and comfort for the rest of us. We don't know how much longer she has.

Re: Pray For Cookie

Postby deejay » Tue Nov 13, 2012 3:26 pm

Where do I begin? Okay, bottom line, Cookie is an alcoholic and is seeking sympathy. Her friend Tamera who comes in to help her is also an alcoholic and her enabler.

At about 4:30-4:45 a.m. Monday, C.J. heard a loud crash in the living room area. She went out and found Cookie had fallen and hit her head. She wasn't knocked out or bleeding. C.J. ran back into the room calling for help; I got up and helped her, with Diane keeping an eye on her. Diane put Cookie in her rollie--walker with wheels and a seat--and tried to get her to the bathroom, which is where Cookie had been headed. She couldn't move her without Cookie nearly falling out of the rollie. Diane tried to call 911, but she is so high-strung I had to take over and make the call. I went back to bed; C.J. and Diane helped Cookie back to bed where she said she wanted to be, but gave Diane some problems. When the paramedics came, Cookie was uncooperative and refused aid. C.J. and Diane told the fire captain what happened--it seems he's been here before--and he told them that next time she falls, leave here there and call. If she can't get up when they come, they're taking her; if she can get up, she stays. We are ready to kick Cookie out. She's like one of the original roomies, Denise, who was also an alcoholic and a pathological liar. We kicked her out after she tried suicide and failed; she also wanted attention.

The past week, C.J. has been struggling with her asthma; she was having an attack when Cookie fell(we're sure she's falling on purpose), and all day yesterday she was in a bad state. This morning at 2:30 a.m. Becky and Diane took C.J. to the ER, where she recieved three treatments. They were home by 5:30 a.m.. We're going to have a house meeting about this. Oh, and yesterday evening the Visiting Nurse came to check on Cookie while Tamera was there. Cookie admitted to the nurse that she was drinking 4-6 little bottles of Chardonnay daily, but C.J. showed the nurse the huge bootle of Cobra beer in the fridge. The nurse took Cookie to task about the drinking, etc., and Tamera cleared out--she didn't want to hear this. And Cookie's feeding tube is supposed to be cleaned twice daily, and it hasn't been cleaned in a month. Diane offered to do it, but Cookie refused.

So keep us ALL in prayer because we're sick of the drama.
