New Writers Want to Feel some Love

Postby msmustardseed » Fri Jan 13, 2012 5:09 pm

Faith Writer Members:

I believe new members are looking for acceptance and friendship as well as writing support. We can show our support by welcoming on the Newbie Nook and sending lots of individual messages.

I hear you! As I pondered your thought, what came to me was, I don't think folks here don't want to be welcoming. I am always the first one at my church to go up and greet someone, if they are new for example. Some days I just don't make it to the boards or when I do, they have so much info and places to go that "the nook" can get over looked. My suggestion would be to put the month's new member's as well as possibly birthdays (I am big on birthdays) on the table of contents page where folks go more often. Have them all listed in one spot so one wouldn't have to click on individual posts, going back and forth.... Just to be able to say a welcome to the newcomers and calling them by name. Also, anyone, wanting an e-card from me on their birthday (I love doing this and consider it a ministry) can just send me their birthday date and e-mail. I will be happy to send out cards to all who would like one. Just one favor there, please have your preferences on your computer set so that "Punch Bowl Greeting Cards" or 123 Greetings (my two favorite companies to use besides Day Spring) won't go to spam. I don't mind sending one card, but sending the "heads up cards" (which I do for family and friends) can get tedious. Anyway, welcome to all you newbies out there. I have only been at FW for about a month. I love it! Get super involved in the challenge or if you can't afford a gold or platinum membership at this time ask for it as a B'day gift from a relative (totally worth it). Make sure whatever level you are at to read entries, there are so many ideas you will get. Also, visit the prayer request section. Everyone loves to be prayed for. That is how I met a few people on this site. Well, this is way too long. I got carried away. I just know how important it is to feel supported and loved, but truly one will get out of this site what they put into it and probably more! God's love and blessings of Grace and Peace to all. We do have a birthday page in here somewhere and a who's who page so you can link the username with the real name and know who's who!

Often if a member has a birthday someone will start a thread in the Water thingy page man my brain is fuzzy sorry I can't think of what i want--oh yeah the water Cooler! (Good grief time for me to go rest again)

I do try to check the newbie nook at least twice a week and try to give a somewhat personal welcome. I'll recommend things or spots that they might be interested in or just ramble on about some of the highlights.

Here's the Who's who list and I'm going to find that birthday list. I need to update the who's who list as well. I haven't done it in a few months, but I'm going to wait until I feel a tad stronger. You wouldn't think laying in a hospital bed for 8 days would be so tiresome but it is!

It looks like Birthday List may have been lost when the system crashed a bit ago. But if you wanted Jersey girl, I bet you could start a thread like the Who's who and people would give you their birthdays then you could organize it by the months. I know BusBoss was doing that a year or two ago.

Here's a link to the Southern Porch regulars birthdays.
