2017 Page Turner Contest

Postby Deb Porter » Wed Apr 12, 2017 4:53 pm

Entries opened for the 2017 Page Turner contest on January 1. This is the 11th year of the Page Turner, and once again, the door is open for both Fiction and Nonfiction manuscripts, with one Page Turner winner (from either category), and one runner up from each category.

*Special Note: YES, you are able to resubmit reworked previously entered Page Turner manuscripts.*

It's time to get that first chapter and book overview ready for this year's Page Turner contest. This is one Page Turner Contest you don't want to miss. Apart from stirring you up to get that manuscript finished (or at least started) you have the opportunity to get some great feedback once the contest is finished (you just have to ask). Some people enter the Page Turner for the feedback alone.

If you are a Platinum member already, here's where you can find out all the details, and also where you will go to submit your entry:

http://www.faithwriters.com/myaccount/F ... turner.php

If you are not yet a Platinum member, you can find out all about the Page Turner contest here:

http://www.faithwriters.com/page-turner.php

This is the biggest contest we hold each year, so if you are working on a fiction or nonfiction manuscript, or even have an idea for one in mind, this contest is for you.

After you submit, I will contact you to let you know that your entry has been safely received. If you submit an entry and I haven't contacted you within a couple of days, PLEASE contact me and ask me to check. There is a link to my contact page (at Breath of Fresh Air Press) near the bottom of both the above pages. If I'm online, you can use the chat button for an immediate response.

As always, the Page Turner contest is most definitely worth entering. The overall winner is offered a contract for traditional publication. Just look at one of our past winners:

Even if you are only testing the water with your writing, give it a go for the feedback alone. You've got nothing to lose.

Love, Deb

Deb, should our synopsis reveal the ending?

Hi Virginia.

In this case, yes. It doesn't hurt to show how it's going to end (even if only in a broad way).

Deb, would it be beneficial to include my character sketches and chapter summaries with my entry? I haven't completed my novel yet, so some of the chapter summaries are not as complete as I would like them to be. I have decided on the ending and on the resolution of the main plot; however, I haven't fully tied up some of the subplots.

It is definitely helpful to include brief chapter summaries and character sketches (for the central characters, at any rate).

Deb—

1)Is there a word limit for the synopsis? Mine remains stubbornly at 690 words despite my best efforts to cut it.

2) Should the entire entry—synopsis, chapters, chapter summaries, everything—be in the following format:

a) Standard manuscript format
b) Double-spaced
c) Not in bold
d) First line of each paragraph indented

3) No pictures in the document—correct?

Thanks.

You're fine. Go with what you have.

Single space is fine. Indenting for paragraphs is appreciated, or you can leave a space between paragraphs. I'm easy.

3) No pictures in the document—correct?

Definitely preferable. No fancy formatting (bells or whistles). Good point you made, too. Pictures in a manuscript are a pain when it comes to editing. :D

Sounds like you're getting close to submitting. Well done!!!!
