The Roommate Thread

Postby violin4jesus » Sat Mar 09, 2013 3:35 pm

Registered for the conference and booked my flight. As hard as I pushed, Ryan doesn't want to come with me for the conference portion, although he'll be driving up and should make it by Sunday afternoon, so for those of you still hanging around, you can meet him. (We have family nearby and plan to visit with them from Sunday on.)

Therefore I am in need of up to 3 female roommates for a double queen room - haven't booked it yet but will fairly soon.

About me:
I will probably stay up late and barely be in the room as is.
I am a light sleeper and almost never snore (apparently only when I'm sick).
I need white noise so will probably buy a $10 fan unless the room has a loud vent.
I have some dietary restrictions so will probably monopolize a good portion of the mini fridge.
I get ready pretty fast in the morning and can take about a 10-minute shower if running short on time (if I slow down, about 15 minutes).
I've lived with probably 40 different roommates over the course of my life and shared a room with at least half of them, so I can handle just about anything.

The conference rate is $89/night and I'm planning to book June 27, 28, & 29 for a double queen. Even splitting just three ways will make it only $30/night. I'm fine with different roomies different nights, and if said other roomies want to extend the reservation through the 30th, they can either pay me for the room or set it up with the hotel to do so.

Let me know in a reply or a PM if you'd like to share the room, and I'll update the thread when I have confirmed spots filled.

And if we fill a room, or for other people needing roommates, you can use this thread to make connections. I know I'm not the only one on a budget.

I'm bringing my own Roomie... :)

It is easier that way. She's had 33 years to get used to me.

Yeah! :) Once I figure out my best flight options, I'll figure out my arrival departure days.

I plan to arrive on Thursday and get a room with two beds. The other bed is for someone who finds it difficult to pay for all the cost of the conference. I would love to help you.

So Joy, you just want one roommate, right? Maybe that will be good for another writer who just wants to share with one.

Shari and I have shared a room I think at most of the conferences we've attended together, and we've even had her baby in the room with four adults, too. We're both okay with sharing a queen with someone else, so to keep costs at a minimum, it'd still be great to have up to two more roomies. That'd round it to about $25/night after tax.

I know a lot of people are still figuring out whether they'll come, so we'll keep the thread open here for more takers.

Hoomi, I would have brought my live-in roomie, but he's just not keen on either sitting in the conference or chillin' by himself. He'd rather spend all day Saturday driving up, listening to music and podcasts. To each his own. Hopefully enough people will be around Sunday to meet him. Maybe he'll think we're actually *cough* normal!

Yup - and we had a blast :) It'll just be me this time, since I'll be flying. I'm getting paid soon, so I should be able to get my ticket soon!!!!

We're getting a rental car, if he doesn't mind snoozing in the back seat. :sleep

I've found that I do not sleep well with others in the room, especially I go to bed first, because I'm always listening for the other person/people and I'm a light sleeper. So I may just get my own room. But at the same time, that seems boring and anti-social. Even if I'm only in my room to sleep and get ready. lol

I'm still trying to make uo my mind if I'm going.

I don't want to fly halfway accross the country and only stay for Friday-Sunday. I want to get in a little sight seeing.

So is anybody staying longer or arriving earlier that wants to share the cost of playing tourist, including an extra night or two?
